Quite an article in Maxium this month. Complete with pictures and descriptions of switching out cards with a Tenki palm move and also the use of a gilm.

I'll have to check it out.
I've seen them feature card counting before in their HOW TO section.

They also show how to make a paper rose in another area of the Aug issue. Some folks might consider that as exposure as well. LOL

Doesn't it say who is the author of that column?

I believe I know who it is(they are doing a monthly gambling/magic column) but don't know if they want the info public...

Anyway, if it is who I think it is, they have very tight ethics and I'm sure aren't revealing anything that would hurt a magician.

No, I don't think it would hurt a magician either. It's more like one of those "gambling protection" things.

I never would have thougt to look for magic in Maxim. I must have been distracted at some of the other items within Maxim to notice the magic. Smile

I got a call last night talking about this article. Apparently, it's not a bad read.
Yes, that is my real name. Yes, I am a real person. No, you probably won't agree with me.

I don't read Maxim too much (I look at the covers, I'm just too cheap to buy it Smile) but I may have to pick this one up. It sounds pretty interesting. (Plus it will give me an excuse to browse the nic pictures in the magazine!)

there is a thread on this in the Genii magazin BBS. I wondered what folks thought of it. Most sloughed it off.

I don't think its exposure... even if it was, only a magician would probably be able to pull it off... just ask a laymen if they know what a bottom deal is, and most will say yes, but very very few would be able to demonstrate even a crappy bottom deal...

I agree...or even recognize it if they saw someone perform it properly...I mean really. Consider the demographic of the Maxim reader...I'm of course one of them but please...if someone is really concerned...they should get down and practice until even the most estute, and I use that term loosely, Maxim reader would recognize it...c'mon get a career.

It's not whether anyone can DO it, it's all about whether they suspect it.
I was shown many sleights and strategies by layman, especially in jr high school.

I wish Penthouse and Playboy would also have articles on this. Great reason to have the magazine Smile

I bought the magazine to read the article Smile .... but the other photos were more interesting Smile

There sleights exposed were common sense with no real detail. Even the shinner they had was so large it looked like a car rear view mirror about 1.5 - 2" in diameter.

Of course, that is just my opinion.

Enjoy !
