I am looking for references, articles or essays intended for lay people that present convincing arguments in favour of Magic as an Art Form. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure how you envision "for lay people" but there is a recurring column in AM/PM which is just that subject matter. Magic As Art it's called.
You can subscribe and get back issues at http://www.AMPMmagazine.com Check your PMs for a special offer as well. Tom |

Probably not exactly what you want, but "Absolute Magic" by Derren Brown will give you some very valuable related information.

While I would not think of sharing the entire volume, but Our Magic and Neo Magic Artistry both make valid arguments on why and how magic is an art.
