Yeap also a great point. I use sharpies for not only touch up work but for use in signing cards for my strolling magic or street style magic at the festivals I do.
Let me change gear here a bit and talk about survival items you might bring with you to help you in weather situations. These can be heat, cold, wet weather or wind. I always bring along elastic as well as what they call table cloth clips. The clips work great for holding down a tarp on a table etc. The leastic band can go from one edge of my lefler table to the other and since it is black, I can use it to hold silks and it does not stand out as a distraction. Since the lefler table will except velcro well, I always bring this along as well. Kyle

Aww another thing to mention and comment on. If you have and use animals in your shows for kids, then tell us and mention some of the survival kit items you always bring along for that situation. This is besides from the obvious food and water etc.
This has been a GREAT share and I would love to keep this up. I have already leaqrned some great things I will be adding to my own kit real soon and I hope this helps others. Kyle

I drive a Ford Explorer. The rear door opens upward which has provided me with a small, but effective makeshift "canopy" if you will - to temporarily protect me against rain while loading in or loading out. (plus I back up as close to the building entrance as possible!)
If you work with doves and travel extensively with them, put a sponge saturated with water in their water dish. It keeps the water from spilling and the birds can somehow still extract the water from the sponge if they are thirsty. Lyndel |

As I'm crazy about sound, I have a LOAD of batteries in my kit, 2 pens for signing invoices (remember that parents usually don't bring pens), deodorant, extra balloons, extra sound wire, extra MP3 player, extra mini speaker.

I always cary a couple of heavy duty extenstion cords. Seems like power is never where you need it. So I try to be prepared.

Lyndel:
AWESOME idea. I have a new Highlander that has that same door principle and your idea never dawned on me. Thank you. I am going to use that if I may. See, this post already has helped me learn a lot of new tricks and survival tools that I am not even using and should and could be. I thank you all for your thoughts. I think this is a great thread full of wonderful ideas. awww Ross mentioned an item not many here had listed and of which I am a HUGE fan of. That is a very accurate detailed street maps of the areas I perform in as well as using MapQuest or RandMcNalley online. I always print directions from opnline and then have my street map with me in the event that I need to refer to it. It is a godsend and I rarely get lost. Amy other tips or tools anyone uses for getting to where they need to go? Chuck: Great idea. I also always bring with me a 100ft extension cord to all shows. Half of the time the promise of power being close to you just simply is not the case at all. It is better to be prepared then not. Kyle

I mostly do corporate gigs, but the same may apply here. I always carry extra pens, pencils, a roll of toilet paper (not only to clean up unexpected messes when I do Silk To Egg, but also for Paper Balls Over Head), extra cash (at least $300), and any extra props, although the props I use can be found at any stationary store, and of course the smartest invention...Duct Tape! Oh, also my rolling brief case to hold everything, close the top and get the hell out of there!

I find it amazing that sopme of the most recoccuring items in a lot of our survival kits are duct tape and toilet paper and markers. Learn something every day. =)
Does anyone bring anything for fixing your clothes etc? I always bring a sewing kit and some buttons and safety pins with me. I also always bring black tape. Once I split my pants down the wek seam and the tape was my only fix. It worked and I got through the show just fine. Kyle

What a great list
I would add 1) A stack of Business cards (just in case you run out) 2) A roll of quarters (ever have to park at a meter and not have any change?) 3) I have a extra water bottle and small bag of bunny food 4) This is an idea I read somewhere, paint your servival kit a funny color, (mine is neon orange) just in case you have to send someone after it they will know which item in you car you mean. (Lets face it to a layperson there are a lot of stange looking things in our trucks) 5) My kit grows bigger each year, if I forgot it once. The item more than likely will have duplicate in my case after that. 6) A door stop, Why didn't I think of that. Just my thoughts Phil

Great great ideas here. I would like to thank you all. Let us try and add to this list if we can and keep it productive and helpful for everyone. With this ion mind, I would like to pose 2 more questions.
1) What would be your single MOST used and MUST have survival kit item (remember this is non magical items)? 2) What are some of the most unique ways you have fixed a potential disaster at an event but used some starnge type of object or item and it worked amazingly well for you? I would love to hear othgers ideas on this as I think it openes this discussion even further. Thanks all. Kyle

The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

All great stuff. I use rubber cement as well. Here is a tip for those who do silk in egg. I bring rubber cement with me for it because I perform outside all the time. With the humidity, it is really tough to get things to stick properly. A little rubber cemt on one side and then on the egg helps a great deal.
Any more tips folks can share with us? If we can get a lot of ideas and secret tips, I will try and compile them in one nice document and perhapos we can give it to anyone who would like it as an easy PDF format booklet. Be a great way to share all these wonderful ideas with everyone. So keep the ideas flowing. Kyle

Bee-Troot or Beet-Root Juice??? What the heck is that? Sounds like something Harry Potter would drink! How about a Buzzel Pop, or warm cat milk soup?
