Hello all!
A guy that I know gave me a zip-tie cuff today that I had never seen before. This zip-tie is called The Tuff Tie. It consists of a clear plastic center block type piece and has a nylon "shoe-string" type of braided cord that zig-zags through the plastic block and ties each hand seperatly. It is a very elementery device, but it looks like it could be a big pain in the butt to get suprised with in front of a crowd.

My buddy told me it was used to restrain his girlfriend's hands one morning when the ATF dropped by for breakfast rather unexpectedly (that is the nicest way that I can put it). I looked the company up on the net and you can see their product line at Tufftie.com.

I am assuming that this is the back-up restraint of our federal officers, since they used steel cuffs on him. A word of caution: these little buggers are VERY compact, I would not put it past these officers to carry one or two of these on them at all times.

So, everyone here who gets out and performs a lot, might want to invest in a few of these. It would blow a cop's mind to let them put this thing on you, and you just cut it and replace it with a new one that is set to the same wrist size as the one he/she put on you! As I see it, this would be the easiest way out of this little bugger (it can not be manipulated in the same way as the plastic zip-ties).

Well, if anyone orders a few and checks them out, give a shout back and let us know what you find out. Thanks, Mike

There are a number of flex cuff’s made for law enforcement. Some are even reusable.

Check out:

They all present an interesting escape challenge.

Hi Mike, thanks for the link.

These look like a fun toy to play with. I love the line "The Inescapable Choice in Disposable Restraints" found on this page http://www.tufftie.com/itemlist.asp.

This type of stuff just makes me want to find a way of getting out even more. And at only $16.50 for a pack of 10 I think I might just put an order in.

Anyone actually use one of these and escape from it without cutting it off?

Cheers and take care,

Ros

I have made tools for opening some of the plastic cuffs, but with this shoe-lace material being trapped on both the top and bottom of the strap, it will be rough to open clean. On the plastic ties, the locking tap is only on one side of the strap. This design is unique to say the least. The lock tabs on these look like jagged teeth coming in from both sides and they really dig into the shoe lace. Mike
