What are your criteria for "best"?
There is something very nice is Scot's Discoverie of Witchcraft. What more would you like? Have you seen or tried Curtis Kam's "Inferrential Copper Silver Transposition" from Apocalypse magazine? If I were to look for ONE version of the trick worth doing (other than my own which I'm kind of attached to) I would use THAT ONE. Also, what sort of effect would you like? The gaff can be used in effects involving counting, multiple coin changes...

Readily available? In print? Easy to do and magical? A favorite of people like Milt Kort, Mike Skinner, me? Try "Presto Chango" from "The New Modern Coin Magic", by J.B. Bobo...

Chosse hit it... seriously, ANYONE IN COIN MAGIC... get the Bobo book, sit down with it for some time and study what has gone before. That's where all of today's top guns started. You will find what is old is new.

Pete's absoultely right (of course) go to straight to Bobo and don't pass go! There are many good cooper silver transformations there... and MUCH more.
Mediocrity is greatly under rated!

"Stars of Magic" offers several excellent versions. John Scarne has a version, and Francis Carlyle gives you a method that allows you to steal the spectators watch at the same time! Of course, you can skip the watch steal and just do the coin trick, if you want...
Vernon has a version in The "Dai Vernon Book of Magic" that is a combination of effects, using a handkerchief. "Expansion of Texture"? Tenkai also has a version of the "Expansion of Texture" in the "Magic of Tenkai" by Gerald Kosky... Milt Kort was the master of C/S routines, and decribes several in his book, "KORT" by Stephen Minch, at The Hermetic Press... Best, PSC

I like Presto Chango in Bobo's, but I really like Dan Watkin's take on the old classic. In his Coin Vanish 1 book, he has a real cutie at the end, "Double-Take Transposition(?)." It's nice and what's great about it is that it happens in the spec's hand, and they sorta put it there themselves...
Check it out, it'll become a favorite I assure you. Dan's work is good stuff, always very well done! ![]()

One of my favorite C/S routines is Doug Conn's "Copper,Silver,Brash" Routine, from his book "Tricks of my Trade." You can see the routine here http://www.dougconn.com/videos.htm
Which BTW if anyone has the book and wants to part with it, please PM me. I only have the cd rom version,so I would rather have the book. Best, Joe

Albert Goshman ("Magic by Gosh") and John Scarne ("The Stars of Magic") offer straightforward versions of the Copper/Silver Transposition. Both of them eschew gaffs and avoid cumbersome actions like reaching into an opening in a spectator's partially closed hand to remove a coin. Their routines, however, do require cunning when placing a coin in the spectator's hand. Other than the advice Scarne and Goshman provide, do those who utilize their approach have any additional suggestions regarding spectator management during this crucial phase of the routine?

Do you know where I can get a copy of that "Discoverie of Witchcraft" book? I collectbizarre magic. Maybe a first or second edition? If I send him the money do you think he would sign it?

There is a nice verion of the effect in the Galloway book on Ramsay's magic where you work with a borrowed coin and use two colored hankerchiefs to help keep track of the coins. Such would be a fine lead up or follow up to the classic Expansion of Texture effect.

There is a good one in the book Kort by Hermetic Press, called "Korting Rylander's Silver and Copper." It's an eye-popper.
Also, check out a few routines and new wrinkles by Gregg Webb. His e-books include paddle moves with C/S coins, a version of "Presto-Changeo" using multiple C/S coins, "two aheads" using C/S coins, and new C-S-B routines including a great kicker for one hand in a three-way routine. |

I Like the "glove" routine on David Stone's basic coin magic volume two.
Also on David roths dvd, expert coin magic made easy (the one on CS coins and expanded shells) are some nice routines. |

In my new book 21st Century Coin Mechanics you'll find in chapter 15 and effect called "Copper Silver By Brute Force". It's a transposition done with one original sleight (The Flying Changeover Palm) and one rarely used sleight. It's very quick and I often do it with a coin and finger ring if I don't have contrasting coins. No extra coins or gaffs are used, just pure sleight of hand.

I do Roth's copper/silver, which is gerat and ends with the last change happening in the spec's hand. But you need a table. For strolling without a table I do bobo's presto chango as mentioned above. Anyone know of any other Cooper/silvers that can be done without a table. Presto chango is the only one I know of that doesn't need a table.
I'd also be interested in chinatown half routines. Jim

James, Gary Ward has a nice "Walk-around copper-silver" in the Linking Ring, February 1998, p 91.
Another great effect is Ken Krenzel's "Spectator Coin-troll" in the Linking Ring, June 1991, p94, but I can't quite remember if a table is necessary. |
