No, Bill. Me and magicalaurie both are for discussion. That's two. Also Patrick Differs and dpe666 and Beth all voted for discussion. That's 5.
How are you voting? |

Discussion for everybody! Please Bill try and focus. This is serious. If we don't get a representative sample we may have a discussion that not everybody wants. So everybody vote!

However, for survey purposes and answer to your original question Laurie: I have always read the entire thread of a post which I contribute to. Chrystal :O) |

Glad to hear it, Chrystal. I do prefer a discussion. Sometimes discussions go off topic. Sometimes that's o.k. Sometimes NOT.
Where you getting your numbers, Bill? Does the partridge want a discussion or survey??? |

That's six for discussion.

The partridge is no longer an issue. He was lunch. The pear was dessert.

That's eight for discussion. Not voting is a vote against surveys.
An Appalachian riddle: A man without eyes saw pears in a tree. He didn't take pears. He didn't leave pears. Now how can this be? Every statement in the riddle is literally and factually true. Not plays on words. |

He only had one eye and he only took one pear. I'll stick with my original answers the the question posed in the thread title, which I guess is a vote for discussion?

Very good Vandy Grift. You should get to vote for discussion twice.
magicalaurie, can he vote twice? |

I think he already did. Let's have a discussion, then. What do you want to talk about?

We haven't finished the Survey first! Maybe no one wants a discussion but us.
I propose we discuss whether it is better to just do lists and surveys on these threads or to have actual discussions that require us to read the whole thread before joining in. I prefer a discussion. Listening is very important in any conversation, so I take the time to read and understand the entire thread before posting my comments. Some of the threads are set up more like surveys to start with ie.: "List your top 10..." ; "Who's the best..." ; etc. In these cases, reading the entire thread may perhaps be considered optional, as the integrity of the thread doesn't depend as much on active discussion. Active discussion involves active LISTENING. Just curious as to how many of us are willing to LISTEN actively versus SPEAK actively? Some of us do BOTH which, in my opinion, makes for a good discussion. I hate lists I think they are all useless and wrong and anyone who participates in just listing tricks and lines and such in a survey type thread is on the road to insanity and destruction. Putting up lists of what tricks are best and what magicians are best is pointless and acerebral. These lists harm magic and magicians and are a bad example for the young. |

There's no survey, Whit. I thought we agreed we wanted a discussion. And I think you've got some quotation marks missing in your post, Whit, yes???

Quotation marks? Why, what on earth would you be accusing me of this time, dear lady?
Yes, of course I want a discussion. That goes without saying. What do you take me for? |

Geez, this was almost embarrassing. I just about posted something without even reading the first post (Even worse, I was thinking this was going to be about our performing style.) I prefer discussion. Surveys become dull, filled with repetitive posts, serving no purpose. Well, that is true for many discussions too I suppose.

Good point, Chris. Reading the first post is a GOOD IDEA.

I would like my discussion concerning the survey to be registered as being in support of discussion, as opposed to surveys.
