Can someone direct me to a weblink to a video of where I can see the "Bobo Coin Vanish" performed, please?

Hey Rocky, Smile

You might check the Bobo website at http://kavalsky.net:3834/OpenBobo/

Not sure it's there but it might be amidst a lot of other good clips from Bobo's Modern Coin Magic. Hey, maybe you might offer doing it once you learn it...Smile

-In the mean time check it here, not bad:

-And look here for a really smooth variation on the Bobo Coin Vanish:
http://magicvideodepot.com/view.php?a=v&t=2137

Hope this helps, sometimes seeing this stuff can help a lot...That was kinda my initial thinking for what Malcolm Kavalsky here on the Café put into reality in creating the Bobo site. Anyway, good luck! Smile -MB

Thank you Mb217 and Dan Watkins for the info.

Mb217, the second link you provide was most invaluable. It really is helping me understand the position the coin is suppose to be held in when starting in the right hand. I was confused a lot when I read this vanish from the pdf version of MODERN COIN MAGIC. The pictures didn't really help out a whole lot. But this video clears it up a lot.

Thanks,
Mb217

Just doing my job...Smile Glad it helped you understand better. Sometimes, it really is just that simple a thing, when folks ask for help, to just give it to them. Again, glad I could help. Smile

Mb217 - thanks to your links to the magicvideodepot, I have a better understanding of the Bobo vanish. The second link to the variation is pretty darn incredible and varies (to my newbie understanding) from the Bobo version in MCM. In MCM, Bobo talks about turning the hands inward toward each other, which always sounded incredibly awkward to me - but this chap, doesn't do this and his effect is as smooth as glass.

Of course, without giving any secrets away, do you (or any of the amazing coin men/women here) have any suggestions of what method would be similar to what I witnessed in that video? I'm pleasantly stumped!

Dan, the vanish DOES look incredibly awkward if done correctly...

Awkward, but not unredeemable. It looks like you're trying to jam the coin into your hand, so.....

Perform one or two standard "coin through the hand" effects, with the coin passing through the back of your hand into your fist. Then, offer to reverse the action, and do the Bobo vanish as if you were pushing the coin into your palm. The turning action of the hand is justified by the necessity of presenting the back of the hand to the audience to complete the penetration.

From there, where you go is up to you. But it fits in this context quite well.

BTW, has anyone ever wondered about the similarity between the Allan Shaw "Spread Vanish" (Buckley's "Principles and Deceptions") and the so-called "Bobo" vanish?

You're most welcome solidimageartsllc...Smile Though Bobo's is a treasure, at times it can be a little taxing to follow. Sometimes if you can just see it done, you pick-up in a moment what was trying to be explained in the book you might've read over and over...I know I did, many times, from sleights to routines. That's also why dvd's are so much more popular than the books, simply they show you directly how to do it with explanation and application that matches. I'm not so big on sometimes pointing people down even darker alleys toward even more books, so if I come across where I saw it done, for FREE, that's where I point people toward. Usually, it is just a demonstration without the method being exposed...so to me, it's a solid reference to what the thing looks like (my original thinking on the concept and evolution to what we have now thanks to Malcolm Kavalsky as the Bobo website). And really, that's what most people want to see, so that they can grasp the concept, movements and actions a bit more precisely in practicing the thing - and the books are still valuable in their own right. Nothing wrong with books as reading is still very much FUNdamental Smile but getting a peek at something (beyond simple illustations/photos) helps tremendously, think that might be the bigger thinking behind the use of a periscope on a submarine - better/more perspective...Smile The more you "see" the more you be. Smile Enjoy my man, and really no thanks necessary...just pass it on the next time some newbie asks for a little direction, especially on the simple stuff. Nice to tell a thirsty man where the water is, but even nicer to also give him a sip of what you might have in your own cup to tied him over. Smile

*Oh, as to the nice method you saw...Now that you've seen it performed, and you know the mechanics from Bobo's, now it's time to think a bit and practice and imagine...The secret to most things are usually in that mix. Smile Good luck. Smile
