What skill level does one need to acquire to join a local group like the IBM?

In most cases skill is not a prerequisite. I believe the IBM states on the application that 2 years of continuous intrest is required though. On both applications you must be sponsored by two memebers of the organization in good standing.

Just go to a meeting and tell them you are interested. Two members will co-sign, usually officers of the group and you are in. It seems intimidating but really it isn't. Even if you are first asked to do some magic and then go in another room while the rest vote, and even if you muffed the trick but your attempt showed you have an interest and would have probably done well if you we not so darned nervous, the rest will vote you in.

You can find out more about the International Brotherhood of Magicians at their website http://www.magician.org/index.htm Some areas are only open to members, but the information you need is there. You can also find the Ring closest to you.
Most Rings are very welcoming. Give them a call. Keith
