Magicians!!!

Either all of you are American, or I am missing something here.

Derren Brown is a pretty big guy in England, and he is going to hit the States soon. You will all know him in 6 months from now.

He is amazing. He uses psychological principles with amazing effects.

So any English people here? And if so did you see mind control 3?

thanks,

HI,

at the moment he is a "pretty big guy" with other magicians. Ask the average person in the street and they have not heared of him,

David Blane yes, David Copperfield yes, Paul Daniels yes, Joe Pasquale yes, Tommy Cooper yes, Geoffery Durham probably, Wayne Dobson maybe, Stephen Mulhern depends on age, David Nixon depends on age and David Berglas unlikely.

I say this not to criticize Mr Brown but to put things into a more truthful light. At the momment Mr Brown is something of a newcommer and may well become as famous as some of the names mentioned. Only time will tell.

With all the talk, I am very interested in seeing Mr. Brown in action.

I must also point out that many of the so-called famous names you listed that laypeople would know are very unknown here in the States.

By the same token, some of the more famous people are still unknown to many.

I have actually performed magic for folks who never heard of David Copperfield, Penn & Teller, or Lance Burton either. I know that the last two mentioned were not on your list, but I included them because I have ran into people who did not recognize the names.

Hi, which ones on the list haven’t you heard of Steve?

Some people over here will have heard of Penn and Teller, but I doubt that any non magicians have heard of Lance Burton.

I was reading over the list, and I doubt if any layperson here in the Unites States would know Paul Daniels, Joe Pasquale, Tommy Cooper, Geoffery Durham, Wayne Dobson, Stephen Mulhern, David Berglas, or David Nixon.

The world is getting smaller, but we aren't a "global village" yet. (And I'm not advocating that either-- differences are good)

HI,

Well over here Paul Daniels used to be the man as far as lay people were concerned for 10 years aprox perhaps more (when we only had 3 then later 4 tv chanels) Pual had a weekly magic show which often featured guest performers such as Lance Burton, Rene Lavand.

David Nixon was the man prior to Paul Daniels
weekly show ext

Tommy Cooper was a comedian/magician (most stuff went wrong)

Joe Pasquale is a comedian/magician but does more comedy now

Steven Mulhern is well known to our younger lay people as he is also a childrens TV Presenter

Paul Daniels was the man! Everyone knew him. It was always "You’re like Paul Daniels" now it’s more like "You’re like that David guy, David Blaine".

Paul Daniels did do this thing in America where he tried to become popular in one month or something. Anyone see it?

I think everyone in magicdom knows Paul Daniels, and, if you're older, David Nixon. And I'm aware of their former popularity in the UK. However, a lay audience will generally only be able to name the top one or two names in the field.

Hi,

Well David Nixon has been explained in a previous post.

Geoffry Durham used to be a presenter of a show over here called "The Best Of Magic" he is also on count down (a quiz show) and is married to Victoria Wood a Famous Comedian over here

David Berglas is really a mentalist, he had a tv show, is president of the magic circle and is best known for the legendary any card at any number or as some mentalists call it "The Berglas Effect" he has never released the method but the effect is
he gives you a cased deck, you name a card then a number, remove cards you count down you turn over card. it’s the selected card!

I think Paul Daniels still is the man.

I met him last year and although he had just finished a show and was in a hurry he still had time to sit and chat with me for nearly half an hour. Nice chap.

I thought that as well. But when I did publicity for the Lance Burton special that I was on a few years ago, many people would comment that they had seen his previous shows and that they really enjoyed them.

So, Lance is getting a lot more popular over here, which is a great thing!

I'm originally from UK and so have the specials sent over. The sooner Derren shows up here the better. His TV specials are all excellent.

Darren Brown used to be a street hustler, using his art of mentilism and hypnosis to con book keepers out of money, and to pull very sexy girls in night clubs, but now he has a contract with channel 4 in the U.K.
he has stopped his dodgy ways. He is a very talented man and I love his work, (But he did once belong to the dark side of the the Force) Smile

He has a book called 'Pure Effect', that details some of his effects. A well as some really good card routines and thoughts on magic. He also has a lecture video out, as does one of the makers of the show unfortunatly i can't remember his name. Pure effect is a great book some of the stuff is pretty hard to pull of but worth it, i use some of the metal forces all the time. Smile

If you are interested in card magic, his latest video "Devil's picture book" is really a good one...

I concur totally with the last post."the Devils Picturebook" is the finest video of its type I've ever purchased(and I've purchased a few).
Now if only hed re-tip his work on "Reminiscence" I'd be in psychic heaven.
