What would be your list of Top Ten Close up Miracles which can:
a) Be performed anytime, anywhere, anyplace - even Naked! b) Are truly Miraculous to lay people in effect. c) Use ordinary everyday objects which can be borrowed off most people? d) Are true reputation making effects that punters will remember forever! my favourties would be; 01) Andrew Maynes - gHost Bills (Borrowed Bill thru Bill) 02) Ken De Courcys - Ripped and restored centre from banknote (from tricks for travelling trciksters) 03) Mier Yedids - Entire Finger Fantasys Routine from his book (plus simlar effects from Body Magic by John Fisher etc) 04) Arm Twisting illusion as used by Blaine. 05) Key, Coin and Spoon/Fork Bending using techniques from Banacheks and Kuffs Videos and Gellerism revealed by Ben Harris. 06) Palmistry readings (Women see these are real magic) using Joe Ridings Art of Cold reading (Plamistry) Manuscript. 07) Psychokinetic Time by Banachek. 08) The Impromtu Voodoo Cigarette Ash on palm Effect. 9) Any of the Instant Hypno-Tricks (Fake Hypotic Stunts) from Royles Book of same name. 10) Stopping my Pulse and/or heart using Jermay/Knepper Impromtu methods. my performance style is that of someone who strange things just seem to happen too. Indeed the above list, with the other items you'd learn from the resources mentioend give you more than enough material for a complete 90 minute show. What would your top ten be? And more importantly why? |

Well, I will sound like a broken record here, but I always give Paul Harris's "Fizz Master' a 10 on my list. I LOVE that effect!
other ones I might mention ar "Dining on Dollars", "Twisting Arm" (but it can only be done in cool weather when it is logical to be wearing a jacket or coat), "relocation" by jay Sankey is a killer coin effect requiring only borrowed change. Vanish 5000 by Greg Wilson requires only a little prep, and a sugar packet, and I could go on and on with others if I had more time.
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

Hi Jon
Great stuff on your list Here is my post that starts a similar thread and includes my top 3 TJ :) Post: IMVHO AGAIN IMVHO A lot of the effects talked about in this section are more impromptu trickiness and cleverness than magic Most debates on the subject concentrate on whether an effect is really impromptu I would like to hear peoples opinions on Impromptu meaning something unexpected or surprising happens without a lot of 'get ready' being SEEN by the SPECTATOR Three of my favourites are Lennart Green's Top Shot Greg Wilson's Pen Work Troy Hooser holds a coin in French Drop and turns his hand over into a finger palm (Ramsey Subtlety ?) (Vol 3) What is your favourite bit of impromptu that is really magical? Cheers TJ |

Re-capped (Paul Harris) - just borrow a bic pen
Spectator's Remorse (Lee Earl) - borrow any deck of cards Manifesting Coin (Knepper) Psychokenetic Touches (Banachek) Memory demonstration with mentalism kicker (Osterlind) Hoy Impromptu Book Test Finger Fantasies (Yedid) Balducci Levitation (have blown away some, and have had some great laughs with others) Invisible Floating Quarter (my own idea) Mentalism themed Magician's Choice as described on p.8 of Miracles of Suggestion by Knepper. Adapted version of The Spectral Chair (Caleb Strange in Issue One of Other Stuff by Dale Hildebrandt) Versions of Blue Light Special as described by Docc Hilford in Weerd! |

I'm almost positive that Re-capped is a Greg Wilson effect although it was put into AOA.

I'd have to agree with the suggestion of rubberbands. I have to admit that since getting Extreme Rubber Band Magic by Joe Rindlfleisch I walk around with a fair few elastic bands on my wrist! Also any of the stuff from Daniel Garcia's Next lecture notes. Cliptrip for instance is painfully simple yet ridiclously effective! And of course simple things like any bob sleights or card vanishes or productions that can be done with business cards, train tickets are all very effective if done properly!
