Hello,

I am looking for a shell coins across effect that doesn't require a table.
I'm familair with david Roths version, and really like the effect.

There are two aspects in the routine for which I'm trying to find an adaption:
- the fact that the original effect (on expert coin magic) requires a table, I would like the use the routine for walkaround situations.
- The method for letting the third coin travel does not really suits me, I triesd to come up with variations, but none of my ideas really satisfied me.

Does anyone have suggestions about published routines and / or adaptions for Roths routine?

Thanks!
Simon

Take a look at "A Familiar Ring" in Steel and Silver by Paul Gertner. I'm going by memory but I recall Derek Dingle had Silverquick (Complete Works Of DD) and Larry Jennings the Peripatetic Coin (Classic Magic of LJ) and I think those were done without a table but using the spectator's hand.

I use Roth's routine all the time standing. Just have a spectator momentarily hold the coin(s) you would have put on the table. This also has the benefit of having the spectators touch the coins without having them overtly inspect them.

I have three Coins Across versions (two are with a shell) in my Coinvanish Vol. 2 notes. One of the versions is called "Three Way Crossing", I have a web video of HERE.

Coinvention Crossing is a variation of that routine that incorporates a sequence from Homer Liwag's "4 Coins and a Filipino." That routine can be found on the Coinvention DVD, Coinvanish Vol. 2, and my new DVD, Coin Man Walking.

My other standing Coins Across is "Four Coins, your Hands" from Coinvanish Vol. 2 or the Coin Man Walking DVD. This does not use a shell, and all the magic apparently happens in the spectator's hands.

My favorite ungimmicked no extra's coins across standing, no table is Paul Cummins' "Underhanded Coins Across" from his DVD, "Up In Smoke."

I really like to perform the Chevron Coins Across with Techron. Hahaha I tend to actually use Richard Sanders' "Cupped hannds runeth over" at least I think that is what it is called. It can be found in his "Close-up Assassin"

If you want to do a coins across without a shell, extra coin, and no table check out ch 17, Boomerang Coins, in my new book 21st Century Coin Mechanics. It's harder than using a shell but it is the only coins across I ever perform these days. It can be done under the toughest performing conditions and even surrounded.

There's a great routine in Doug Brewer's Book/DVD "The Unexpected Visitor" called "Sounds Familiar." It's a coins across bit with a nifty transposition at the end. It can be done standing or sitting.

Try Your personal safe off of the Daniel Garcia project dvds. It was inspired by gertners routine but daniel kicker at the end is that THEIR own ring dissapears out of THEIR hand..while it is closed. the best I have seen so far.

LJ's "Peripatetic Coins" has some beautiful moments. Larry had several approaches to the traspositions, and they are not all in print in the one place. It first appeared in a "Magicana" by Charlie Miller, then again in his big book. One of the "moments" includes a HPC out of the ], which can look quite good. the final coin, into the spectator's hand is great. LJ did this with a "tumble" vanish of the ], which you would think you could see, but the movement covered any exposure. Another moment incorporated the back-clip, and made the transposition of the second and/or third coin look miraculous. All the different approaches that LJ took should be covered in a single article, it would be extremly good info...

Don't overlook " Triple Play" from In Concert with Roger Klause. It has some very good Klause touches and is 3 coins across ala Vernon's beginning, middle and end and yes it uses a [ or a ] for the lefties. Lance

Second that Lance, triple play is, after Roth's original the way to go!
It will bring you down to 3 as well, which seems to be superior in an aestethic way ;-)

Hi Simon,

On my DVD, IN THE TRENCHES, I share my routine, "Above, Beside, or Below." This was designed with the strolling magician in mind.

It was also published in my second set of lecture notes, NOTHING UP MY (GREEN)SLEEVES.

Enjoy the search,

Paul Green

That is a fact, Larry! I've NEVER seen anything even close to this combination of moves...in fact, I'd love to see someone do this on video. My pinky finger is giving me trouble these days with weakness and numbness, but Pix 17.7 thru 17.10 show it plainly! No question there! Plus, if you can do that Ross B move, you've got a great new method to add to your skills!

Love the book, Larry! It is a TRUE work of Magic!
