I just got The Cheat dvd's yesterday. This guy's skill level is amazing and he's blind. I was just wondering is he still performing or if he's retired. I did a few searches and couldn't find anything.
Just curious.. Rick

Rick - Turner appears periodically at the Magic Castle. I have attended his lectures, as well. It is too bad his DVD was not accompanied by his notes as they add to the "routining" - although there are no written "instructions." - Scott

So hes not completely blind, I think. According to that thread, he can see to a certain extent.

One the greatest. For this sort of stuff I think he is better than Forte or Ortiz. Have a pipe at his second deal for example.

Cool! I would love to see him live. Richard Turner and René Lavand should be given some sort medal of honour for the odds they have overcome. It just blows mind to think about it. I moan when I get a dry thumb.

Meir suffered extensive damage to his right hand and lost a finger as a result of an automobile accident in the 1980's.

Thanks Larry sorry to hear that. I don't know anything about Meir to tell the truth. I know I am thankful to him to for getting Herbe Zarrow to make a DVD.

In the same breath I speak of skill with cards rather than magic, speaking as someone who as an opinion based on what he has seen.
P.S "Richard Turner can do stuff with a deck of cards that no one else in the word can do. No one in the world. No one!" Vernon.

Richard is also an accomplished martial artist. I just had to pop that in. He is truly amon the best in the field of card cheating moves. I would have to add Sal Piacente in the list too.

Funny you guys should bring this up now. I'm currently in the NCO Academy at Lackland AFB, TX. (NCO Academy is a mandatory, 6 week Air Force class on leadership.) Richard will be my guest at the graduation dinner on Thursday night, and then I'm staying with him at his home during the TAOM convention.
I'm also in the process of writing an article for Genii on Richard, which will cover his beginnings in magic, his experiences with Dai Vernon and the late 70s - mid-80s Magic Castle crowd, and various other topics. His sight will be addressed, and how it has affected his card handling over the years. As Kim mentioned in the Genii thread, Richard's sight has slowly deteriorated over the years. He isn't completely blind, but may as well be. He can still detect bright light (it hurts), but hasn't been able to see/identify individual playing cards in about 8 years. Jason

I was lucky enough to work with Jason and Richard doing the photos for the upcoming article. Turner is incredible... on his own planet so to say.

Jason, that is great! I look forward to reading this article when it comes out.
Some of the moves on his tape are just plain disturbing - really good and fun to watch. I will say this: the company who put out Mr Turner's tapes as DVDs should really have taken the time to do it properly. An index would have been nice, even if they had still used the card nomenclature for the shuffles, etc, and if there had been any way to remove those casino noises...
