You can learn the Billy McComb version (already mentioned) from the Stevens Videotape/DVD (# 30 of the Greater Magic Video Library). It is also given is his book “25 Years Wiser”. The props for the routine may be bought from the source mentioned in the post above.
You can also get a non-comedic version in Roger Klause’s “in Concert” tape/DVD. Roger gives one of the smoothest, direct, and cleanest handlings of the routine. Get the props from Lauflin magic (www.laflinmagic.com) or Hughes (a member here at the Café and found at: http://www.hughesmagic.com). Finally, if you can find it, General Grant (the dove guy) has a booklet on silk magic out that gives his version. It is suited for a silent act done to music! That will more than get you started.
The artist formally known as Mumblepeas!

Hi Adam:
In addition to the excellent sources given by Cardone and Harry, I believe you can still get it from Abbott's. I bought mine about 20 years ago from them - it came with Billy's routine and handling. Ron |

The handling is taught in McComb's book. Also on tapes by IMS and Stevens. Abbott's sells the complete routine as does Viking.
I can furnish replacement silks or special color combinations. Richard

Be sure to check out Wayne Rogers version in one of his books ... http://www.nzmagic.com ... or email him. He has a fantastic routine that I have actually seen him do. It is based on Billy McCombs version but only uses 'one' gimmick instead of two! Well worth check out.

Abbott's Magic is the authorized manufacturer of the Billy McComb version. It comes with silks and a complete treatise on the subject. Billy seems to claim the complete routine as his. Ken Brookes and Billy McComb had a long dispute on this many years ago.
I believe, my own thoughts, that Billy McComb is the originator of the half dyed silk, but the Comedy Color Changing silk I believe goes back to Frank Lane. It as many tricks like Professors Nitemare have gone around the world and many performers have added their own touch to this effect. I have over 10 versions in my files and still a new one pops up now and then. I would like to see how Wayne Rogers has approached this modern classic effect. My favorite handling is Bev Taylor of Townhouse Magic and last published by Fabjance Magic, both shops out of business. |

The Townhouse routine is written up in the "Townhouse Magic" book and was also written up in "Ledgerdmain" which was a magazine published by John Fabjance.

Having recently seen Wayne perform this in a large theatre show, his handling of this version is so direct and clean that it had a fantastic response from the lay audience! It 's highly recommended and it's a definite improvement on other versions! |

My memory is real hazy on this one, but I thought that Billy's routine originated from Tom Waterman's Sucker Silks.I think the original Waterman routine is described in Ken Brooke The Unique years, and Billy's is in 25 Years wiser.
