My good friend, Doc Walton gave me a sponge tooth and I love it! Why? Because it's a tooth made out of sponge, that's why. It's a pretty big tooth, far larger than a normal tooth, which equals funny. However, I am at a total loss as to what to do with it!
I can see its potential, truly I can, buried deep within its spongy little soul. So far all I have come with is a gag where I talk about how somebody hit me and knocked my tooth out, then I show it to them. Seriously. That's all I've got. Of course, it's funnier if you picture it in the middle of my usual sponge ball routine. Anyway... I need the assistance of my fellow magic nerds to help me come up with some ideas as to truly use this odd little object to its potential. Any ideas, gang? Muchas gracias in advance! -Reis O'Brien |

Check some of Dan Garrett's material. He is the guy that makes sponge carrots, pickles, bananas, big teeth, and baby teeth. He has LOADS of ways to use them. I am not sure if he has a book on the subject or not, but you might try emailing him and asking his advice:

Mind you he might not be so happy with all the spam he is now going to get from Kyle giving his e-mail out on the internet!
If it was me, I'd make a point about some kid whose teeth are coming out anyway having a loose tooth and produce the sponge tooth from their mouth. I'd probably have to use a large rope and a huge sponge mallet to help and involve several of the kids in the audience. Probably with some sort of throw away line about 'the tooth, the whole tooth and nothing but the tooth' getting into the routine. However you know your personality so your routine has to work for you. Nigel
I knew a man who kept saying "pliers, pincers, scissors". He was speaking in tongs.

One funny bit that Dan does with the tooth:
He starts to produce it upside down (from a hat or something) so only the roots appear. He alludes to the fact he is about to produce a rabbit...but then pulls it out completely revealing it is a tooth. |

You can Mention the tooth ache you have through out the show and before it is all over reach into your mouth with the tooth Palmed and pull it out. I do this with rocks (sponge), I mention that I feel something in my shoe and when I take off my shoe an oversized Rock is taken out. No wonder my foot is hurting I say... the kids get a good laugh and the rock looks real..

It would be very cool if you were performing it at 2.30 and then you asked what the time is and someone says 2.30 - then you pull it out and say 'you're right - ow!
that would be an awesome gag felix PS Kyle - great puns! |

Hello:
I've seen one performer use a red marker to color the root part red so it looks like a bloody tooth. When he produced it from his mouth, the kids really screamed and reacted strongly. I believe Goshman is now marketing the red-rooted tooth, but it looks too pristine. The red marker made it look like a bloody mess! Ron |

In any show there will be a kid with a loose tooth, have the kid come up on stage and pull the tooth. Put the tooth under something and check back onder it and there is a dollar. for the kid.

A couple lines that come to mind:
It could be a "tooth fairy". Produce it and say, "I want to tooth and nothing but the tooth".

With modern technology you can use a "blue tooth" gag of some kind.
You can blow it out of your nose. You can have a mini pillow and have a tooth fairy story then pull the giant tooth out of the much smaller pillow. |

Dan Garett has a really good tooth fairy routine for the "baby sponge teeth" Not the large one.
He shows the tooth and talks about what happens when you lose one...then he shoves it into his hand (leaving the two points sticking out of his fist) as he says "Now you tuck the tooth under your pillow (he points at the points) and the easter bunner comes (the points looks like bunny ears). The kids correct him quickly! "oh I am sorry...the TOOTH FAIRY comes and takes the tooth (he shoves tooth completely into fist) leaving you with a shiny coin!" The tooth has turned into a silver dollar. Pretty cute little routine! You need a TT, a Silver dollar, and a sponge baby tooth to do the trick. It still looks pretty good even without the tooth fairy routine! |

Hey TOOTH GUY -
Do you do a standard Invisible Deck? When they "throw" the invisible cards back onstage, make an "Umph" noise and jerk your head and upper torso sharply like the cards nailed you in the face...(pause)... "He decked me" (you should have ample time to steal the tooth) "Wait a second, my tooth..." (produce sponge tooth from your confused face)... then go on to use all those one-liners that were just offered above... In quick succession... Before showing their chosen card. Hey, this is good stuff... I wanna do this... Where can I find a big sponge tooth? -Nathan http://www.NathanAllenMagic.com
