Hello everyone,
I'm so glad I found this site. I was pointed to it by a post by 'mattsharpe' on the PenguinMagic forums (who I don't know) so you can thank or blame him as necessary After stumbling around for 30 years entertaining random kids with my "detaching thumb" and "coin behind the ear" trick, I decided to take magic a bit more seriously and started working on learning something a bit more substantial. I am currently working my way through "Royal Road to Card Magic" and have also purchased a couple of packet tricks to get me going. With "Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic" waiting on the bookshelf. At this point in time, I have no idea where I'll end up with all this. My goal at the moment is to have a routine ready for Christams so I can put on a show for friends and neighbours. After that, I'll see how it goes. Being new to all this stuff, I guess it will take me a long while to get up to my fifty posts, as I don't think I'll have much to add, but if you ever need a beginner's review of anything just let me know Mike |

Welcome aboard Mike,
This site can be a bit overwhelming at first. Being a newbie to magic you probably don't know where to start. Check out the variety of topics here... you will gain tremendous insight. A good place to start is the topic, "NEW TO MAGIC?" There you'll find others who are beginners like yourself. I'm an old-timer with more than 50 years in magic. Don't hesitate to ask questions here. We're all here to help. Dave

Hi mike,
get bill tarrs beautifully illustrated 'now you see it, now you don't', if you are interested in some serious sleight of hand - I'm glad I got my copy some weeks ago. excellent stuff for the beginner! I already can do an almost perfect double-lift - at least perfect enough to fool my girlfriend |

Thanks RWhit and martink65,
I have been doing the DL from Royal Road and seem to be doing OK with it. The problem I am having is with a three card lift, don't want to go into too much detail for risk of exposure. Mike |

The usual problem is that the touch is not light enough with the right thumb, or the left 3rd and 4th fingers are snagging the deck thus making it difficult for the right thumb to gauge it.
