Mickey Jay,
Try 'Easy To Build Quillotine' by Paul Osbourne "Need a quick head chopper for little or no money? Then this is the plan for you. It has the impact of the most expensive head chopper you could buy, but it's fast and easy to build. The blade extends beyond the stocks and is totally solid. It cuts two carrots beside the victim's head, but the victim is spared and lives to tell the tale. This prop can be built in just a few days, is easy to perform and will fit in the backseat of your Mini-Cooper. It's a classic of magic made simple!" - http://www.osborneillusionsystems.com/ Hope this helps, -Murby |

Well, I wouldn't go quite that far as to say that. I have seen and worked the Wellington see through head chopper and it is just incredible. It is far superior to any head chopper on the market for so many reasons. It is a bit pricey but if you could see how it works and the craftsmenship involved you would be amazed. As far as the queston goes, it really depends on what type of quillotine you are looking for. Do you want one that is in the head chopper style? Or are you looking for an actual quillotine with the blade that drops? And out of those are you looking for the one that the blade passes through the victims neck or one in which the victims head actually falls off?

...and now to a interesting question. The presentation.
I have a very nice guiljotine, have used it before, but I did not like the presentation. So now its out from my show. As far as I´m concerned, there are a lot of questions and troubles with the guiljotine. Why would anyone put their head in a real guiljotine? That´s stupid. And the ending, it´s an anti-climax. No blood, no nothing, it didn´t work, or it did, depending on how you see it. So, basically I would like if someone could help me to get it back into my show , and do my work Presentation ideas, oneliners... Thanks from Sweden, -Johan Ståhl- Ps. Don´t forget, the world championship of magic in Sweden, Stockholm next year. |

Sure.
First, I explain it'll do an amazing thing -- the blade will pass right through a head of lettuce (or carrot, or whatever) without any damage. At this point, the helper is already on stage, not knowing what is coming. Of course, the lettuce IS cut. Oops! In order to rectify the error, I look for "another head." This gets nervous laughter from the helper, and big laughs from the audience. I get 'em in the chopper, do all the gags (WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE ROUTINE ), finally having the blade fall and not harm them ... but it DOES cut carrots beneath their head! Now, this is NOT a failure, as I set up from the beginning the amazing ability to pass a blade through an object without harm, which it does EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN "PROVEN" THAT THE BLADE IS REAL AND CUTS. I think the 'accidental" cutting of something beforehand is essential for the most powerful effect. Secondly, it's impressive and amazing due to the fact that it still cut something BENEATH the helper's neck. So, Johan, I think it's all in the set-up and presentation. Hope this helps! |
