I have a friend of mine who is looking at buying a new system on the market called the PEAVEY MESSENGER. It is quite small but fits into a neat little suticase type design. From what I could tell it is basically a smaller version of a Fender Passport. He is wanting one for his school shows and is very picky on what he will and will not buy.
As you well know, you don't need a massive sound system with 500 watts of power for a school show. I have used the Florida Magic PAS767 system for as many as 600 kids at a time and it only 25 watts of power. Anyone know anything about the Messenger system and if it would handle 500 kids at a time? |

No but I use a fender passport for small shows and it would be perfect for that type of show. I would recomend either version of the passport. I found one new on ebay for 1/2 the price I could get it locally. New in the box and full warrenty from some music shop (I think in Colorado).

I am well aware of the passport systems as I had one at one time. However, my buddy is looking for something small and less heavy.
Does anyone know anything about the PEAVEY MESSENGER? |

Hello Todd,
I don't have any direct knowledge of the Messenger but it's nearly the same size and weight as a Passport P/PD 150 series. (Were you comparing it to the PD 250?) The Messenger actually weighs 29 lbs. packed while the PD 150 weighs 28 lbs. (I went to Peavey's site for specifications: http://www.peavey.com/products/browse.cf......nger.cfm .) Peavey generally makes good equipment so I have no reason to expect anything less from the Messenger. (I used a Peavey PA system for 18 years.) I think the reason you're not getting any response from people who have tested it is because it was just introduced recently. (The press release I read was dated July 23.) I know this isn't much help. Your best bet is to go to a dealer and try one out. Michael |

The Peavey looks sweet. I'd like to hear some feedback too!

O.K. here is the deal....we went to a music shop today and hooked one up. It is a nice and neat little system but there is no way it would ever cover a school gym or Caféteria, it just wou;dn't work. The speakers are very small and do not produce enough sound to work a large group. I would say that you could use it for 100 people but that would be about it. I think he is going to get a Peavey Escort.
Anyone have any feedback on the Escort system? |

I have just ordered a peavy escort. It sounded great in the shop, and many have said it is preferable to the Fender 150 de luxe. I am paying about $600

I've been using the Peavey Escort for about four years and I think it's great. I've used it for small shows and in 350 seat auditoriums with no problem. The sound is great and it's very portable with luggage wheels.
It has a feedback location system which works very well for finding and eliminating feedback. |

We also use the Escort on a lot of our shows. I have nothing to say but good things about how it sounds. It's a real work horse. If I'd say anything bad it's that the speaker tripods are bit on the thin, shaky side but that's why they fit in the case. I don't really consider this a big draw back. The holes for the stands on the speaker will fit a bigger stand so...again no big deal to upgrade.
On another note they are easy to fix if anything goes wrong. A DJ plugged his monster set-up into one of our speakers and blew it out. Took it to Rondo music and had it back in a week and it didn't cost much at all. The Escort is well worth the money. We like it so much we got the messenger as well, for smaller gigs.
