Just today, as I was brainstorming myself that I realized how much The Magic Café helped me out! was a lurker for several years, till one day I decided to finally sign up! I am not sucking up or anything, but it truly stands for its motto " Magicians Helping Magicians".
Would be really interested to know how The Magic Café helped you out! how it made you a better magician, what did add to your arsenal (other than the long list of really GREAT friends and mentors!) Personaly, it got my grey matter working, got better handling of the IT, drew me close and closer to bizzare magic (FOUND WHAT I REALLY LIKE IN MAGIC RIGHT HERE!) got me not fear the chop cup (thanks GEDE) and brought me closer to the billet (this is love! hehhe) and the list goes on and on and on....so anyone would like to share?
Double posters should be shot!

The Magic Café' is a place that allows me to share what little knowledge I have and voice my opinions.
The folks in Café also get me to exploring new ideas and things I hadn't heard of before. Thanks All! |

I've learned a lot, not only about magic, but other areas as well. The Special FX forum has helped me a lot with sound editing and producing sound files on CDs (I'm a preacher first, magician second!), I used to record my sermons on cassette, but thanks to people sharing ideas on the Café, I produce them on CD now and they are not only much more professional, but also have a wider distribution since most people use CDs now instead of cassettes. That's only one of many very positive outcomes of my time spent on the Magic Café. Not to mention all the money I've saved by being able to read reviews on tricks, books, DVDs, etc. before forking over the cash! Keep up the good work!

I found a group of thoughtful, intelligent, mostly NON-anonymous group of folks who truly care about the art of magic. The willingness of most people here to use their names and photos, and not to hide behind pseudonyms, is the most important part of it for me. When people are anonymous, there's a tendancy towards stupid, ad-hominem crap that I generally don't see here.
I've also learned more here in 9 months of membership than I had in my previous years of mish-mash magical education. It truly is a great resource. |

John,
I find that some people are too quick to judge others. There are reasons that people use pseudonyms that involve not hiding. I try to be stand up here, honest and authentic. However, there are people who do unscrupulous things. I have little interest in having my life interfered with by them. I have made my identity known to people that I trust with that information. I would encourage you to be respectful of everyone's contribution. Please understand that some of the names and photos may not be true either. Cheers - El Lamo P.S. I respect the wisdom and knowledge that is prevalent here. The Café is a wonderful place. I appreciate everyone's contribution. Thank you.

It seems you think I was addressing you specifically. I was not. |

Hi John,
Thanks for the clarification. I'm not quite that paranoid too assume that you were speaking about me specifically. It is just that there have been a number of posts which are critical of pseudonyms. I was trying to show that there are valid reasons for pseudonyms as well as less valid reasons. Thanks for responding. Cheers - El Lamo

I've learned the importance of character, style, and clarity. I've built my ethical foundation, too. I've learned to think it out first, then do it; not the other way 'round, as I've done in the past. I've learned that the only real way to do anything is in real time, and not just with hypotheses.
I've learned to listen to the tourists, and to figure out what they want. I've learned that magic is NOT for for the weak.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

The Magic Café has made me a better magician and it has educated me - the self-educate one. It's truly a great friendly place to hang out everyday! A day without the Café is like a day without the sunshine or java

Just for access to the Guest Magician of the Month, the magic Café is worth its price in gold. Where else can we get so close with many great magicians without leaving our desks?
