Hi guys,
I need your help. I would like to know if I can translate (to portuguese) the books by Dariel Fitzkee and sell them to magicians here in Brazil. I'm thinking about these because I translate a lot of thinks of his books, and I'll finish that. So they have "copyright"?? What I have to do to sell the translated books? IS that a good idea? What do you think?? HEEEEELP Thanks

That would be copyright infringement, unless you have written permission from the publisher

The copyright status of old works like Fitzkee isn't so clear. It falls under the old copyright law and it may be public domain. You can check the following site http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html for information. Even if the work is copyrighted I suspect you could pick up the Portugese language rights from the owner at a reasonable price. The copyright can be held by the publisher, his estate or heirs. Check the copyright office for information, they do check these things for a small fee. If I inherited a copyright from Grandpa for his rights to Magic with Serpents and someone wanted to pay me 50.00 bucks for the right to translate it into Esperanto I'd jump at it.

Currently, the Fitzkee books are published by Lee Jacobs, http://www.leejacobsproductions.com, so that's probably the best place to start.
