Can anyone translate this?

Si Signor der dego forte loreze inaro demainte loreze demis trux fulla cooza henza dux.

This was given to a language student who spent hours trying to decifer it.

Send answers on a postcard please....

Someone should be able to work this out...

.....think Irish....

There they go, forty lorries in a row.

Something about lorries and trucks, full of hens and ducks.

But I can't decode all of it.

Really can't get the first two words, but the rest is:
There they go, forty lorries in a row. Them ain't lorries, them is trucks, full of cows, and hens, and ducks.

So what is "si signor"?

I speak very little Spanish but I believe that would be "Yes sir." Smile

Well done Peter,
The "Si signor" is the only part that you dont decode.

Like jester_juggler said. try reading it out loud, WITH an Irish accent, or for the people in the UK with a Geordie accent.

(whining) I don't get it.
Someone please explain. What is this odd thing that is hurting my brain? I feel like I am 8 years old and have just read a Al Jaffee comic that I don't understand and can't wait till I grow up so that I can.

Sillily,

Will - it's a phonetic gag. It looks for all the world like a profund quasi-latin verse, but when read out loud it is something quite different! As Wayman said, try it in an Irish accent Smile

Also works in my Scottish accent.

Cheers

Just for those of us who wonder if the term "anal retention" requires a hyphen,
"Si signor" is Italian rather than Spanish. The Spanish equivalent is "Si, senor".
It does mean "Yes, Sir (or Mister)" in both languages.

A disturbingly-similar gag. I have a engraved brass plaque above my desk which reads:
CIBILI CEUM GO
FORTIBUS ES INERO
NOBILI DEUS TRUX
VATIS INEM CAUSEN DUX

When people ask me what it means, I tell 'em to "say it out loud" (with a slight Pennsylvanis Dutch accent):

"See, Billy, see 'em go -
Forty buses in a row!
No, Billy, they is trucks!
What is in 'em? Cows and Ducks!"

The plaque is very stoic and proper, which makes it all the more fun.

Enjoy!

You may do penance, if you didn't get this, by repeating over and over

Owa Tagoo Siam

Or maybe not,
