I have seen a version of the asrah for sale that only goes up to about 10-20 feet. I guess this is for smaller stages. Has anyone seen this performed? What do you think?

Where have you seen this for sale? I have a standard Asrah and it can be performed in almost any ceiling height.

Maybe the one you describe is like one I saw a long time ago where the form was manipulated by backstage assistants with a permanantly attached rod. The length of the rod would certainly limit the height of the levitation.

Most I have seen today go as high as you need because they do not use this same mechanism. I have the Chalet Azrah and I am quite pleased.
Wonder is very necessary in life. When we're little kids, we're filled with wonder for the world - it's fascinating and miraculous. A lot of people lose that. They become cynical and jaded, especially in modern day society. Magic renews that wonder.

There are two types of Asrahs that I know of that are available: one uses stage rigging and assistants, the other can be performed without rigging and assistants by the magician only!

Both illusion plans can be found under New and Classic Asrahs here: http://hamiltonholtinc.stores.yahoo.net/plans1.html

There are complete Asrahs for sale but you'd have to do a search here at the Café to find out who sells them.

Take a look at these two, which are about the lowest in cost. Others are much more expensive, such as Wellington's at 4500.00.

Another option... buy the form only and build your own table.

Dear Skypoint:

Thanks for the links. I have been interested in purchasing an Asrah for some time now. Do you have an opinion on the links that you gave as to which of the 2 is better. Can they be done surrounded and what kind of enviornment is needed. Can it be done close up. Any help you or anyone could give, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Bob.

Bob, I have not seen any of these up close, however there is a video which should give you a little insight at the Stevens Magic link above. (The link is at the top of the page). $800.00 is about the jumping off place for these illusions, and it looks fairly good for that price! The forms only seem to run about half of that.

Once your gal is covered, you can do this semi-surrounded depending on several factors. Tilman's Asrah (above) states that you can do their version completely surrounded.

Since I like building, I'm ordering plans from Osborne and will probably build a modified version of his design.

Good luck, Jim

If your thinking about the European version though VERY compact in travel not very practical for actual performance! To really make it look effective you will need a black floor on stage and then the diseption will be their. The form is really not that bad...really hard to have totally vanish as in a professional model built by a builder such as Bill Smith, Owens, Etc....the portable Asrah looks as if the form is the same as other however I have never actually played with this one. Good luck!

Does anyone have the plans? How much would it cost to make?
