An English word.
Reverse its two middle letters and its meaning is exactly opposite.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy;
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,
And I've a many curious things to show when you are there.

Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair
-can ne'er come down again.

Got an almost antonym, but you do have to drop a letter.

tidy (t)DIY

This is bugging me.
Is either of them an obscure word I'd need a thesaurus for?

Kevin.
My candle burns at both ends; it will not last the night; but ah, my foes, and oh, my friends - it gives a lovely light!
