Hi I really didn't know where to put this post but here we go. I'm interested in watchstealing and pickpocketing and I've done a couple of searches here on the Café and found out that Chappy Brazil probably has the best watchstealing DvD out there, at least one of them. Then I also heard that Stealing the Show-The Ultimate Pickpocket Guide, is a good source if you want to learn pickpocketing, so my question is, as I want to learn both watchstealing _and_ pickpocketing, should I get both the DvDs or is it enough if I only get, Stealing the Show-The Ultimate Pickpocket Guide? Because as I understood there should be some watchstealing there as well. Thank you.
Kim Ps. If you know where to put this post please let me know, I've almost only been at the card section. |

Honestly I would go whit Chappy. I have them both and I also have encyclopedia of pickpocketing. and I would go with Chappy. If you are into more stage performing then fine go with Stealing the show. But if your talking about walk around or street I would go with Chappy. Pickpocketing is not the easiest to get into. But that's where I started. Im looking into more putpocketing.

Why is stealing the show more fit for stagemagic? If I want to learn pickpocketing as well as watchstealing then the chappy watchstealing isn't enough, is it? and perhaps I should add that I'm mostly into cards and soon coins as well. I'm only interested to learn some watchstealing and a couple of things you can pickpocket but I will practise my heart out.

The reason I say Chappy oppose to the other one FIRST is because STS pretty much uses the technique of manipulating the spectator to face the audience while providing cover for such steals. Chappy allows and teaches every type of Watch and will teach you for one on one And other type of surroundings.

I think the Encyclopedia of Pickpocketing is awesome. So much material. I don't own any other material on pickpocketing other than Gregory Wilson's Watch steal on On the Spot but the encyclopedia is great.

The chappy brazil tape is more practical, the stealing the show and a book theatrical pickpocketing by jim ravel is better for stage and tech you how to put a routine. But the chappy one is more casual and only watches.

Piere Jacques book on Pickpocketing is another source of technique and inspiration.

My apologies for the typo in the above post. Should have read... "by Pierre Jacques".
Theatrical Pickpocketing by Jim Ravel is also a good source. Enjoy! Jonathan

Stealing the show teaches a lot of material that is in every way just as suitable for walkaround as stage. Chappy Brazils watchsteal video is great and indeed does teach almost everykind of watch but you may decide to just learn and perfect one of them anyway, and most likely the same basic steal taught on Stealing the Show.
My recommendation is the James Freedman Stealing the Show DVD. It teaches all the basic steals including several watch steals, enough to design a very good act with a little thought. Chappys video does teach the watch steal a lot more in depth and is worth getting too, especially to see many different steals performed many times on many different people, and to study the misdirection required to pull off the steal. Good luck.

How different is the material covered in Stealing the show from Freeman's earlier work, "Picking a Pocket or Two?

Jlevey- I've been looking for Freedman's Picking a Pocket or two for some time now.
Any help on finding it? I emailed James's site but got no response. |

Hi James.
I may have found my copy of Picking a Pocket or Two about three-four years ago from the Magic Warehouse. Not sure though. As for James Freeman selling his products directly on-line, I seem to recall that he had an agency representing him and his products. Do a bit more googling and you might find his agent's site. You might also consider putting your request on Genii and Magic Casfe sites in the appropriate columns. It's a great instructional video, so good luck! If you come across more info on Stealing the Show, please let me know. Jonthan

I look forward to receiving it asap. Jonathan
