A strange thing has been happening. I'll be on a web page and all of the sudden a banner on the site will change to another banner. I know there are scripts that do this but it's even happening on web pages on my own site. Sites that I myself made and placed the images and HTML codes on. I don't understand how this is happening and I don't know if it's my page that's doing it or my computer. I never heard of anything happening like this before.
Let me give you an example. If you go to the main page of my site (link below in my signature). At the very bottom of the page there is a banner add. This is a rotating script that loads one of 3 banners each time the page is reloaded. I'll open the page and after a few seconds the banner turn's into a banner for the Desperate house wife's TV show. I have no idea why it's doing this. I thought maybe one of the sites the code came from that the banners are linked to might be doing something but it isn't. I checked another page on my server (that I don't use anymore) and the banner on the top of the page changes after a few minutes too. You can check that page out by clicking here Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Is there some new kind of spam method out there or something? Ron Jaxon |

You might have something that has attached itself to your browser and is doing this behind your back.
I would download something like Ad-Aware and run it. Certainly javascrpt can do this but maybe something has latched onto your browser. Which browser do you use?

Hi Ron,
You used one of those " website in a box" programs didn't you? ( WYSIWYG) I'm no.....expert but I've seen this before. I noticed that your banner at the bottom is linked to phpnuke.org. Is this intentional? In your source code I see that phpnuke.org also made the program you built your site with. Several of these " build it yourself programs" do this. They have their own little goodies put into the source html code that do strange things like linking back to their site. Best, Tim |

I've had your site up for a while, and I'm not seeing a change.
I looked at the code. It's just a simple JavaScript that randomly chooses one of three banners when the page loads. I see no code on any sort of timer that could change the banner unless you reload the page. My best guess is you've got some ad-ware on your PC that is altering the page. I would run one of the ad-ware detection programs like ad-aware. It's free and available here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ Assuming you're running windows, MS has a new ad-ware detection program you could try. It's also free. You can get it here: http://www.microsoft.com/security/default.mspx Either of these should detect most ad-ware programs you might have and allow you to remove them. |

I work in Internet Tech Support and we suggest Ad-Aware all the time. Microsoft's spy/adware remover is good too, but there has been some rumors of them not removing certain programs due to business dealings. I suggest having Spybot: Search and Destroy instead of the MS one.
FYI, you can get both Ad-Aware and Spybot at http://www.download.com. They are both listed on the front page in the "Most Popular" list. I personally have both programs on my PC. Ad-Aware is more for just scanning for the programs, while Spybot has additional blocking features to prevent some spyware. |

Some hijackers require a good antivirus as they are trojans and not adware.

I tend to agree with Partizan about the possibility of a Trojan.
If the three images that rotate are ones that you uploaded then I see no reason that a stranger ad should appear in that space or cell that's reserved for the 3 images. I've just been reading a little about those Back Door Trojans but make no pretense of fully understanding them. Also, I am not saying that this is Jaxon's problem but it may be something to look into. Best, |

Jaxon:
Sometimes when referencing an external image, a webserver can be configured to return data of a different type than what was requested... In other words I can call a file "test.jpg" and it will actually call a program named "test.cgi" or whatever on the server, and that program will return data saying it is a .gif, and it might include several images in that .gif. Or I believe there are ways to send out 99% of a .jpg but then cause some sort of corruption on that last bit and force a refresh, but I'm not 100% sure on this. Anyway, it might be an issue with one of the host of your ads, and not with your computer or source code... just a thought. |

Thanks everyone. I'm looking into all suggestions and I'll let you know what makes it stop once I figure it out. It only seems to be effecting the banners that are standard size (468 x 60).
