Hi. Greetings from the UK. Uncleswede here .... In the spirit of the forum and in the expectation that someone, somewhere, might find my post interesting, here's a summary of my magical tastes and activities...
FAVOURITE MAGICIAN: Houdini Not that I would ever do his stuff, but I remember being really taken with the Hollywood film (Tony Curtis) as a kid and it was that that triggered my interest in magic FAVOURITE GENRE: Cards I do a bit of other stuff but card magic still fascinates me. I generally try, however, not to do too much card work on table close-up (there's nothing like approaching a table with a big, friendly smile and armed with a set of bikes and having someone say 'Oh not another bl**dy card trick!'). FAVOURITE BOOK: Royal Road to Card Magic I don't go back to this very much nowadays but I still have a copy and I still remember the reverence that I used to treat it with when I was a lad FAVOURITE SLEIGHT: Elmsley Count I had the pleasure of seeing Alex Elmsley lecturing recently and seeing him demonstrate what he humbly prefers to describe as the 'ghost count'... FAVOURITE PERFORMANCE FAUX PAS: Performing the Milk Funnel trick, with the funnel stuffed down a punter's trousers and not realising that I had the funnel's stem valve open. I poured the entire pint of milk slowly down through the funnel and on into their underwear.... Afterwards I apologised to the punter and asked why he hadn't said anything - "I thought it was part of the trick.', he said ...... FAVOURITE CLOSE-UP TRICK: Skinner's Ultimate Three Card Monte Yeah - I know it's gimmicked, but the impact on lay people is consistently high and I've always judged tricks by their impact, not by what goes on under the bonnet ('hood' to you US chaps!)

Ah, I was born and raised in Luton. Came to NJ in 1998. I don't particularly miss Luton, although I do miss my local!

Oh my word....Turkish coffee. uncleswede, if you've never tasted Turkish coffee, you've missed out on a treat. Very strong, usually very sweet, and a real "punch in the face" (don't let that put you off - it's a great pick me up). Just watch out for the "sludge" on the bottom!

Foucault,
Since you have mentioned about the "sludge" of the Turkish coffee, why did not you tell about that it is used to tell fortunes among friends ? Anyway thanks for the confirmation of the taste.

I didn't know that Turkish coffee sludge was used to tell fortunes, TORA! You learn something new every day.
