I have changed my mind about many things (regarding magic) during my years at the Magic Café. I could be embarrassed if old posts and comments get pulled up! Ideas and techniques that I once thought were "good enough" no longer seem that way. Thanks to help here at the Café, I will probably change yet more in the future.
One example of change is how much I practice. I now feel practicing 1,000 times is not too little just to get an effect ready. As the Chinese proverb goes, "Prepare ten years for a ten second performance." How has your mind changed over the years? Alan Wheeler

It hasn't been years for me but I have realized the Art isn't what I thought it was, and more so the people involved with it. I have learned, for me, good Magic is more about presentation that tricks. Being a natural entertainer this has not posed a problem, just something else to work on combining moves, words, emotions, props, etc. to create the Magic. The cost of learning has been lower than I anticipated, with much knowledge and time savers offered here. Also the idea that a group of Magicians would be different than any other group was a faulty one. People are people, good and bad in any profession. Some days you get the bad teller, other days you get the good one. At first the thought of joining a Magic club was appealing, like people who share the same faith gather at a church. Now I will remain solitary as I do with my beliefs.
A few years from now I'll post an update. :o) |

I don't think I've changed my mind on anything major while I've been at the Café, but one thing that's definitely changed during my time with magic is realising the importance of presentation. With that honed a good performer can make something out of a beginner's book of magic look like a miracle. That's why I think it's sad to see these internet places selling a simple effect for $25 to the "I just need one more new trick to get the girls" brigade, when if they went back to their books and looked hard they'd find untapped riches.

After posting and reading considerable posts here, I noticed it is very easy to hurt others by careless posting. I have changed my mind, and I will try my best to avoid writing such posts as much as possible. It was/is very difficult for me as non-native writer of English. But it is a good excersise also in real life.
Hideo Kato P.S. I also decided I try not get angry if I received unpleasant post on me. It is possible that such post was caused by my careless post or it is careless one itself. In internet world, such things occur easily because of mainly anonymous nature. |

I have changed my posts and even deleted a few potential posts before I hit the "submit" button. I have learned to be more opened minded and have learned a few things from reading the posts.

We are all (hopefuly) artists here....part of that is always evolving. Changing is a way of showing maturity in our art... I used to think that flashy stuff was the way to go...then it became mental...now I think its in the middle...but ill probably change my mind on that to!
