I perfrom the linking hula hoops in my regular routine. I get some decent reactions with it. I have had a lot of fun performing it as well. It has bocome of of my favorite effects that I have done. It only took me a little less then a week to get the routine down. I highly reccomend that you get it!

There are other interesting things you can do with hula hoops besides linking them. You might check Jim Gerrish's PVC Pipe Illusion Book 3, chapter 4 - Hula Hoop Tambourine Illusion for some ideas. It's on my site.

I've used the Dick Zimmerman Linking Hula Hoops for almost ten years. It always gets a great reaction. I use a upbeat 50's song and get everyone clapping along.

Maybe I saw the book for sale in an old Owen Magic Catalogue.

I have used it both with and without music and it plays well. I purchased the zimmerman instructions used, however I think owens still sells them. It is a great opener for kids shows.

Whats' good is if you have Dicks' instructions with a copy of his hoop act on video. He performs the effect as part of the routine.

I performed the Dick Zimmerman Linking Hula Hoops for a season. It was a good routine. Deceptive linking and unlinking sequences. Two minuets or so depending on how you played it. The only draw back was the 1st link got such a big reaction the rest of the rt seemed to go a bit down hill. In retrospect I made thing worse by turning the 1st link into a toss link. (the rings linked when I tossed them into the air) This was much stronger than the rolling on the ground link that started the original rt. As it turned out it was too strong an opener. Humm…. Maybe I should have stuck with the original rt???

I agree with Carbone, I love the routine but it seems to go downhill after the first link, and I never found a good ending for it. I would give anything for a strong finish to that one.
I added a few moves to lengthen it- see also Lewis Ganson's book fronm Supreme (out of print, I think.)

I like to end my routine with putting one of the hoops around my waist and actually try to actually use it, but fail miserably. it gets a decent laugh.

The only source I know of is the Dick Zimmerman routine being it is his property and sold some years ago.
The last place I seen the routine is from Viking Magic. Happy linking! |
