The question was not whether a particular company behaves unethically, but whether you would work for a patron who you believed to be immoral or unethical.
As magician2000 has been eager to jump to McD's defense, there's not even an issue here about any ethical clash. Veering this far off topic is likely to get the thread locked |

I believe each poster has made their position clear with regards to the Golden Arches people. While there does seem to be two sides to the issue (the company generates enormous amounts of waste, etc.), they also have the medical support issues going with Ronald McDonald House and Starlight Children's Foundation (something that they do NOT advertise.
Both posters have made their positions clear. At the risk of sounding like a referee, which I'm not supposed to do, let's move on. I am a rabid non-smoker and always have been, but once, in a situation of serious financial compromise (facing impending bankruptcy), I did accept a trade event (industry only attendance, not a marketing event) from a tobacco company. I am still ashamed to admit it, but I did it. At least it was not marketing to the public, which I probably would not have done. But I still feel badly and it was over twenty five years ago. Has anyone else done something similar when their back was to the wall? Lee Darrow, C.H.

Lee... Point taken... Comming from a family who had just about all of his older relatives as smokers, neither myself, or any of my brothers or sister picked up the addiction.
Tom... I brought this up, as McD's was mentioned in the first post. You were quick to point out the search you did, but failed to mention that the post was basicaly a rant on a message board (is that very ethical?) that some one posted on a message board, and was implied to be fact. As I stated before, I really do not have any affiliation with McD's except as a customer on an occasional basis. This would be a good time to start another thread where we can discuss various corporations, and whether it is felt that they act in an ethical nature or not. Tom... I enjoy reading your view point, and one thing is sure on this particular topic, and that is that it is not likley that we will agree on this subject. Cheers... Dominic

All I have to say is
Mmmmm... FRENCH FRIES and a chocolate shake. I know its not good for me,(duh) but it tastes so *** good. Its my choice to occasionally eat that garbage, don't anyone dare take that choice away. The food nazi's are everywhere. Its not my fault some fat pigs eat that stuff everyday, then blame Ronald,Grimace and the hamburglar for their obesity. (That grimace guy does look suspicious though) Rent the dvd "Supersize" you'll stop eating that stuff so much. I find bag salads are a nice healthy lunch and quicker than leaving work to get trash food too. As far as the question at hand, its a personal choice I think. Those evil empires will go on with or without my performance, so myself, I just take the money. If you feel bad, contribute to an organazation that opposes them with some of the money they pay you. Just my 2 cents... Steven CORPORATE MAGIC *** Mmmm... MONEY! |
