Usually, the response of this, is they give a tentative nod "Okaaaay".
I would, however contest that there is in REALITY very little pportunity to perform what could actually be termed "close-up" magic.

Thanks for the input guys.

I didn't realise it was a problem until I posted my thread, put my concern into words, and realised it may be an ego thing.

In hindsight the person wanted to be told, "Yes, he is amazing at chess"
I was uncomfortable with my reply, so realised it was something to work on.

I've worked on going from a timid non-performer with no ego, to an actual performer, and the fact that, I now have a mild case of 'performer's ego' has taken me by surprise somewhat. I just need to keep it in check.
