I didn't realise it was a problem until I posted my thread, put my concern into words, and realised it may be an ego thing. In hindsight the person wanted to be told, "Yes, he is amazing at chess" I was uncomfortable with my reply, so realised it was something to work on. I've worked on going from a timid non-performer with no ego, to an actual performer, and the fact that, I now have a mild case of 'performer's ego' has taken me by surprise somewhat.
