Going to start teaching my 2 grandsons magic (they are very interested) and would like to know where I could get a copy of the magician's creed if there is one available.
Thanks,
Don

Here's one.

The Magician's Oath

I promise I will always guard against exposing the secrets of magic, whether through lack of practice before performing, or through explanation to any person not entitled to know the secrets. I make this promise seriously, realizing that in violating it, I am not only violating my word of honor, but I am violating the trust and rights of all other magicians who, by the very nature of their form of entertainment, are entitled to the preservation of the secrets of magic.

Here is the Society of American Magicians oath:

If accepted as a Member, I agree to do my best to elevate the Art of Magic and to abide by the Constitution, By-laws, Code of Ethics and Ritual of the Society of American Magicians.

I shall endeavor to cooperate with the Society in the promotion of its objectives and to promote harmony among those interested in magic and to advance the ethics of the profession.

I agree not to expose any modus operandi from stage, platform, television, radio or in any manner whatsoever.

I am opposed to cheap literature wherein magical secrets are needlessly exposed, or to the sale of professional magical effects in cheap miniature form to the public.

I am opposed to needless and useless explanations of secrets to persons who are not entitled to know them or who are not interested in magic.

I am opposed to placing any legitimate performer in a predicament while that person is before an audience.
Peace Beth

Thanks Beth and Jaz.

Have a cold look at what I've been posting about the nature of magic. I hold it to be a meta-experience, and short of religion itself, about as potent an inner experience as someone can have. Where love colors the world about one person or group, magic changes the very structure of how we see the world. The ability to affect others in such a manner comes with the basic responsibility to treat others with greater respect. Similarly to blow off one's ability as mere trickery is to diminish other's ability to experience the wonders of the world. A magician opens new doors to experience and widens those that are already there. The "secrets" of "how to" are secret to our audiences only because the flip side of wonder is cynicism and despair. We offer them the wonder.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot colour change;
big enough hands to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Buying one gimmick at a time;
Learning one trick at a time;
Accepting spongeballs as the pathway to coins.
Taking, as Vernon did, this magic world
as I would have it, not as it is;
Trusting that Hank Lee will have all things I need
if I surrender my credit card number
That I may be reasonably entertaining in this life
and supremely happy with the new Ammar DVDs
Forever in the next.
Amen.

Marshall, they want one to believe in, not the one so many live by.

I will feel good when I fool them
and feel better when I tell them it's a secret.
I will feel important when another magician asks me about a trick,
and will tell them I invented it even when all I did was follow the instructions.

Verse two is worse too.

Depending upon how old they are, I wouldn't fill them full of too many rules and regs. Just the basics would suffice. Enthusiasm is a wonderful thing and it's all too easily crushed.
