Umm... I'm getting a little puzzled by the use of such terms and phrases as, " tentative schedule ", and " This time the theme is Bizarre And Mentalism Magick with possibly the three most well known names in the genre" ...
why is this suddenly starting to sound " iffy " ? Is that "possibly" as in, they are possibly the 3 most well known names, or "possibly" as in, they might possibly actually bother to show up ? and I must confess, Francis Menotti is unknown to me, so I tend to discount the former interpretation, although that's probably what is meant. (I hope)

While Francis may not be as well known as the other two, he does give a good lecture. From hearing him lecture, it was my impression that he was much more of a mentalist than a bizarrist but he put strong emphasis on performance rather than "tricks." Well worth while.
I can't address your other concerns, but I am sure someone else will shortly. Have fun! I expect a full review. Dave |

Mystican,
To answer your second question first, "possibly" means that to some they are the three most well known names in the bizarre/mentalsism genre. (Although PT is right, Francis is not as well known outside of the Northeast US, and mostly Philadelphia, PA.) To answer your first question, the term "tentative schedule" means that the auction may end later (or earlier) and lunch may be later(or earlier). All acts are definitely booked and will appear, and lecture. For those who don't know Francis here is a short bio: Francis Menotti Having begun his endeavors as a magician over 20 years ago, Francis Menotti brings to his audiences a suave blend of skilled sleight of hand and wry sense of humor that leaves them laughing and amazed. Menotti became interested in magic upon receiving a Fisher Price magic set for his 5th Christmas. Over the years, he learned almost entirely from books, looking to classic literature and philosophy for inspiration of his now award-winning acts. Menotti now performs his warped and innovative magic full-time throughout the country. He also lectures to magician groups on the concepts of creativity in the art of magic. He has become known and respected for his wide range of styles from theatrical to classical magic, and has performed in Las Vegas, Walt Disney World, and regularly in New York City’s longest running magic show, Monday Night Magic. His most recent work is entitled Stranger than Fiction, a 70-minute play that consists of selections from Francis' repertoire of original material including: Dire Straits (his signature strait jacket vignette) and Exdislycally Shunuffled (a linguistic card trick) This show has been produced in Philadelphia and Largo, Florida. Directed by J. Nathan Bazzel. |

Greetings,
As explained above, the schedule may be a bit different than what has been posted, but Docc, Francis and myself will be hitting town on Friday night, and we will be ready to go on Saturday morning. In regard to Francis, he has toured across the U.S. with me--and he is one of my favorite magicians in the world. He will not be presenting his complete lecture at this event, but he will be doing a mini-lecture (which you do not want to miss) following the morning auction. After that, I will present my complete lecture, and finally, Docc will present his complete lecture. As for the evening show, all three of us will be performing. To be honest, I am really looking forward to the convention because I will be debuting several new effects. It should be a great event, and I hope to see a bunch of you there. Keep the change, Rick |

W00t !!
We made it ! The Baba and I had a good ol' time there. I wish I could've gotten there earlier and stayed later, but at least I got to go. I don't think it was quite as "bizarre" as I was expecting, but then again, that might be hard to get away with in a VFW.. ;-p I can't give a full review, because I missed Francis entirely, and only caught the last 15 or 20 minutes of Rick's lecture, and pretty much missed the whole point of the last effect. In fact, I didn't get around to even talking to him, but having not really seen the lecture, I didn't have any questions and I wasn't about to bug him with inane small talk - I'm sure he gets more than enough of that on the road. If I'm really lucky, I'll get a second chance at the thing in Philly Sunday night. SPatrick was there of course, and had his table set up along with the other vendors such as Wizardcraft. Sorry I didn't buy anything from you, bud, .. you had just the right kind of props for the show, but I already had most of that kind of thing ! Love those boxes ! Docc's lecture started off with Nightmare coins, then a subliminal type mindreading experiment which might have been born of NLP, and finally a magazine booktest from his latest booklet, entitled Nostrum NookieFancy or something like that ;-) which employed a dual reality principle and a sly twist in the ending. Overall, he's a pretty funny, likeable guy, a bit younger than I pegged him for too. He definitely lives for the stage. I was a bit surprised by a little rant regarding ethics, or lack thereof, citing as a primary example the vaudeville-esque "shtick" side of magic where a magician might cut someone's tie, or burn their $100 bill, or otherwise embarrass someone, and somehow I can't help but think this was some kind of response to David Parr's recent criticism of The $1000 Seance. There was also some jabs at an older, well known mentalist who frequently skirts on the bizarre side as well - boy, magicians can be a catty bunch ! All in all, it played a bit like a "transferrence" of unethicality, without specifically saying as much, but, that's enough psychoanalysis from me. (There's a good reason why "anal" is buried in that word !) For me, personally, though, the real star of the day was Baba, having gotten to finally meet him in person. He's soft-spoken, warm and friendly, articulate and intelligent, even more so in person than here, and most of all, there is a gentle humility to him, or maybe, an inner peace. There is no ego about him at all. I'm honored to call him friend. Oh crap, my horns are melting. :-p

Too bad you guys were so late in getting there. You missed a lot. I wont try to review a friend's convention except to express my dismay at the pitiful turnout. I'll second your comments about Baba. A true gentleman. Sorry I didn't have time to chat much. Hopefully we'll meet again soon. Think Good Thoughts, Dave |

No way fellas, the HONOR was MINE! I had one of the most Blissful times of my life there with my good people...
Indeed, 'twas small, but WONDERFUL. I really enjoyed the intimacy. I didn't think I would have the chance to talk to you, or Docc and Rick for this matter... anyhow, I got there just in time to see Docc Hilford. He did an excellent lecture, and showed a few effects: Nightmare coins, E'voke, a hypnosis demo, and a cold reading demo. In the latter, he showcased the EVILDAN peek wallets. I HAD to get one after that! I highly recommend these beauties... I was perturbed that he not only demo'ed the aforementioned effects, but also gave the skinny, the 4/11, the deal, the method, the scoop, the enlightenment, the way, you get the point...I think this would have been alright in a more exclusive environment (like, Mystician, Dave, and myself ), but that's how it goes...I always disagree that it should be a point to the audience that THIS is NOT real. I prefer to let the craft speak for itself. References like "If I WAS a REAL mindreader it would look like this..." and the like took me aback. But this is my opines, and not open to debate....not to mention his talk about ethics! Whats wrong with settin' a guys toes a fire? ...AND admittedly this is Baba's first convention, and this may very well be the way they all go... was really hopin' to see Raven's Slates, but alas, he said there weren't enough people there to pull them bad boys out... I didn't see Rick Maue lecture, but had a brief chat with him. What a great brother he is. I look forward to his next work. The few dealers, Spatrick, Evildan and a few others sold some great effects. Lots of cards, coins for the most part, but Patrick had some wicked props for the would be Bizarrist. He's currently selling the remainders in the sale/trade forum, so check them out.. I picked up a Bill Tube for next to nothing, and my GEM the Evildan wallet for a steal too... night fell and the show commenced. First came Rick Maue and he did some excellent pieces. One was a "pick a drink" vibe where the spec. picks what bags for him to eliminate. some had drano, windex, oil, but he was magically saved and was left with a bottle o' soda. He also did a nice spirit piece where a wine glass tied to a string "ting-ed" when he pointed to the spec. with the hidden key. Next was Francis Minotti. He was a young lad, looked like Harry H would have in his early 20's, only skinnier He came out in a straitjacket and escaped with some nice backround music. He also did some cards, and a PERFECT routine with an egg bag. finally ol' Doc came out in his dapper suit! He PULLED my Goddess and I to the stage for the PK touches demo!!!!!! I played the game well, and added a few perks in there as well...He then did a PERFECT routine with the Dance of Shiva P**K. I NEVER saw him do the dirty work, let alone p**K!!!! He read mine and her minds, made one too many comments on my gals beauty, then sent us on our way. again, this is a moment Baba will never forget. They blessed the place! I want to Personally give THANX and PRAISE to all who made this possible... ...and to Sinnead, Pkg, Midnight, Paisa, et al.....NA NA NANAHHHHHHH NA!!! (*sticks tongue out*) Mystican, LOVED the spandex Devil's outfit bro... muhahahahahaaa... |

Hmmm... Nice to be on the list AND have attended Keith's convention.
Keith is a friend, but I've gottta say the performances, lectures and dealers were all GREAT! Rick and Docc were terrific as usual and a blast to hang out with. The Avenue Diner wants to know when they'll be back! (Yeah right, like they'd come back to Kingston PA without a hostage situation!) Francis Menotti was a huge surprise, and VERY talented. His performance had me laughing out loud, especially the "end" of his routine. This guy is an up and comer everyone. Catch him whenever and wherever you can. The only problem I had with the show was the MC for the evening, a nice guy who seemed to have no clue as to what type of show he was doing! but his routines certainly added a "surreal" air to the entire show! Spirit bells and puppets! Talk about variety! Dealers were excellent and I frequented a few. Craig Dickson and S Patrick had some amazing items for very reasonable prices and Evil Dan had some of the most amazing wallets you will ever see. If you want an exceptional mentalism wallet, this is the guy for you. Sorry I didn't intorduce myself to you gentlemen from the Café. Will do so in the future. Wishing you the Beast...
