Martin - after a brief look I notice those words also appear in the body of your text. Google looks at the RELEVANCE of the text. Not the metatags.
To be fair - there are some who believe that google uses meta tags sparingly and since there is no point in completely deleting and since other engines use them, they are worth having. Just make sure the BODY of your text is relevant.. |

Just as an example use this link, I'm the third listing. The listing shows my Title Text and below that are my Meta Tags.

Google is using your Title and Description, but not your Keywords.
I believe Google has always used the Title. Using your Description is a fairly recent change. As I recall, they announced that change earlier this year. I don't recall whether it was on Google's blog, or a Googleguy post on one of the techie forums I visit from time to time. Keywords just aren't trusted anymore. Some webmasters would do things like put their competitor's name over-and-over in their own keywords. For example, if I were your competition, I could put things like "Martin Blakley" and "hypnoguy" over and over in my keywords. There was a time that this trick would make my site come up in the search engines ahead of yours, even if someone was specifically searching for yours. This sort of trick was used a lot by unethical webmasters, so search engines had to stop using the webmaster supplied keywords in order to keep their results meaningful and useful. |

I should probably write a book on this subject and make a million dollars. I've worked for years trying to decifer the "code" they use. Check out a search for "free novel" and you'll see my link come up. I just did a search and it was #1 out of 70,900,000 pages. I won't tell all my secrets, but I will say that the most important thing is the title and subtitles of the page.

Then the obvious solution would be to create other meta tags and give them a name other than keywords. They seem to index all the other Meta Tags.

Okay, I was wrong. There I said it. I tested it out and Google doesn't pay any attention to Meta Tag keywords. However, I copied my keywords into another Meta Tag and Blamo sent myself up the ladder towards the top. Not at the top as Alltimefavorites and PartyPop still knock me out of the top 3 slots. But hey 4th isn't bad and it is above the fold in paper parlance. You can see me on the screen when you get there. By the way Google totally disregard this post.

I created a website for my local magic shop. The website took about 2 months for the Google spiders to find it and cache it. At first it was listed on page 7 of the search results. I would search Google and find the link and click on it from many different IP originations as I could. Within days, it started climbing up. I believe that Google knows who searched for what and what they eventually clicked on. If many users all search for "Magician" and a majority of these users all click the same link, it will climb to the top. Eventually it would become #1 if that pattern continued. As an example, a group of people that follow and breathe politics, all searched for the word "failure" and they all clicked on GW Bush's BIO. If you Google "Failure" (no quotes), and click "I'm feeling lucky" , Google will return the #1 page for this search. try it.
BTW, I used a list of proxy servers and just proxied to Google from about 20-100 IP's (a day) and had my magic store website #1 within 3 weeks. The website is magicfest.com but if you Google magicfest, it's #1 baby! I also did not use any meta tags. |

What do you mean by "proxy servers"

I use a "portal" to go through to get to Google. As far as Google can tell, the visit was from a user in Argentina, or France. Funny, when I use an IP from one fo those countries, Google shows up in another language character set.
1.) Here's how you do it. Go to your browser TOOLS and select INTERNET OPTIONS. 2.) Select the tab INTERNET CONNECTIONS. 3.) at the bottom, click LAN SETTINGS. 4.) at the bottom, select radio button "Use proxy...." 5.) enter 216.68.79.21 for the IP and 80 for the PORT, 6.) click OK to close, then OK to close the last window. 7.) go HERE and click the bar and see how Google and the WORLD see's you. If you get a list of IP's can can get any webpage to the top. There are many lists on the internet. I use this site as one of my sources. |

Muzicman,
Tell me if this is correct: 1. Change your proxy server/IP thing. 2. Go to Google, and search for Magician or whatever. 3. Find your own site listed in Google, and click on it. 4. Rinse and repeat. Correct?

That is correct. When Google sees the same link being clicked from the results. It moves up. The Proxy IP's fool Google into believing that many users are clicking that link from the results. I moved one site up 8 pages to the #1 spot over several months using this technique.
