There is really no home for this forum.
I don't want to talk about tricky bottles, dove pans, and streamers. Or magic in a living room. I want to discuss choreography, blocking, entrances, exits, theory, and some grown up stuff. Can we not create a forum called "Stand-up Magic - 'Step into my Parlor'" or something like that? Please? Come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!

Frank-
Fabulous idea-I support hat so much-Im sure Steve will think long & hard about a more serious side to performing forum The theatre side to shows is so important as is presentation etc for a polished act were striving to reach-these small perfections as you mention are the reason at times why Magic as an entertainment form is down the bottom of the Ladder- Tell someone your a musician & they go -Cool Tell them your a Magician & they think-Cheesy!!! We need to lift Magic as mentioned many times in Ken Weber-Maximum Entertainment Book-A bible on presentation Please Steve give us this forum!!!!!!!! |

I would defidently like to see a stand-up forum ... I think it is hard for nearly any magician to go from "close-up" to "stage" without passing through the "stand-up" stage. 1t is just too big of a gap for any of us not to need stand-up experience.

JoeJoe,
I think too many magicians look at stand up in this way: as a "step" between close-up magic and stage magic. It's like saying a bike salesman hopes to one day be a car salesman. They can't be looked at as a progression. Having a forum specifically for stand-up would be great. I agree with Frank that the closest forum we have now to stand-up is more focused on props -- this doesn't do anything to help the problem that most stand up magicians have -- basing their acts around the props they own. In my opinion, this is what I dislike about stage magic. Too many artists base the show around the props and not enough on "who they are" to the audience. |
