I am working on an effect of my own and I am having a hard time coming up with a method for this......

Does anyone know a method of making a prediction of where a spectator placed the needle into the doll? Like a mentalism effect....I turn around or something and she places pin into doll, then I reveal it.

I mean beside stooging.

I REALLY need to work this out. Any gimmick or anything?

Any help as always is greatly appreciated.

There is one available commercially that is similar. It uses a doll in a box. I'll see if I can find the URL. I don't remember the name of the effect.

Ah, yes, Alan Warner's "Voodoo." http://www.alanwarnermagic.com/?nd=full&key=1322

Thanks to BloodyJack for this URL under Voodoo, right here.

It also depends on how you intend to reveal the prediction.
You could always have multiple outcomes at the ready, for any of the choices.
That's surefire, but a bit unwieldy.

Another method would be to force their "choice" somehow, through cards perhaps, or dice, rather than just handing them a pin and letting them have at it.

Another force option, if you have faith in NLP, wonder words, that sort of thing, you might just be able to subliminally influence them to stab it where you wish, which is, of course, far from surefire.

Thirdly, if the prediction is to be written, there's always the ol' standby - a swami gimmick, aka N.W.

You can use:

~a Gaff** die to force the Number (provided the doll has numbers, on the head, heart, hands etc.)

~a stack** deck o' cards to force the corresponding number.

~psychologically many people will stick it in the heart...

....want more? PM me...

Baba,

Do you put numbers on your dolls? I thought this seemed awkward.
I have tried placing the doll in a pentagram with a number at each
point. This works very well, except it leaves out the heart. As you
pointed out, psychologically many are already thinking about the heart.

Unilogo,

Using the layout described above, I have a decent force for any of the limbs (or head). The way I play it, there are note cards at each point of the pentacle as well and that is what is actually being forced (using the doll). It could be easily adapted to predicting a point on the doll, but it is not as direct as some of the ideas above. PM me if you are interested in more details.

For those who can picture what I was talking about above, the method and presentation are my own, but I believe that the underlying principle has been published. Does anyone know its origin?

Thanks,

Dave

Yes brother, I do in fact use numbers....make them look old, and compare the different parts of the doll's body to the Chakras, whose number are seven. I explain that we all have in our cosmic being "7 points of consciousness" or states of beings. To influence the said points, I teach, is to influence a person in a given area of mind thought, ie the heart will affect their love thought, the stomach, their hunger, their quest for power, whilst the throat will affect their communication, speech.

if you don't number the doll, you can use a crib sheet of parchment paper. this will have the force numbers, ala cards, dice...

...the rest I will save for the book... Smile

Thank you my friend. Tying the numbers to the Chakras is an inspired explanation for their presence. Like so many others, I look forward to your book release with great anticipation.

Mary Tomich used to sell an effect that does his very thing. I have it but for the life of me I can not remember what she called it. As it is a commercial effect I can not reveal the method but you may be able to buy one secondhand. Now if I could just remember what she called it...

I sold the VanWarren version recently on my website.

Hmm... I like the Chakras idea, but I really like the pentagram idea !

Other possible tie-ins to ponder:
Tarot
Playing cards
Bones
A clock face

John, it is fairly expensive, but I don't remember the price. I think it is well worth what it costs and it looks to be beautifully made. I think you can continue clicking on a couple of links and you will find the price.

I thought so considering it's "hand made" I'd price a little high to if I slaved over a block of wood for hours.

In keeping with the pentagram idea that ptbeast outlined above, I suppose you could also tie in the various parts of the doll against a clockface, which would yield a few add'l options.
The extra "stops" could be a multitude of things: organs, emotions, or something tied in to numerology.
12:00 = head, brain, mind
9:00 and 3:00 = arms or hands, strength
5:00 and 7:00 = legs, travel
11:00 or 1:00 = throat, chest, or anything associated with "1", etc..
That still leaves 2:00, 4:00, 6:00 (git yer mind outta there !) 8:00, and 10:00 to play with.

There's also the 12 signs of the Zodiac, instead of the clock. Or both. Or all three: clock, zodiac, pentagram. Boy, that'd be busy !

We used to have a black and blue zodiac clock in the house I grew up in. I wonder what happened to that thing .. ?
I think I want a clock with a pentagram on it's face now too.
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.
