There are several silk effects listed on wonderimagery.com such as Silk Stains, Super Pumpkin, Circus Cannon, Hare, and 911 safety silks. I would appreciate comments from anyone who has any of these effects and whether you recommend them. I would also appreciate comments from those who do not have these effects but think that they are interesting and entertaining routines. The circus cannon effect seems entertaining but there are a lot of objects to carry and to set up. Do you think this particular effect and routine is worth the effort to carry and to set up? It also needs sufficient floor/stage space to set up properly.

Thank you very much for your comments.

Best regards,

Michael

I don't own any of Timothy's products (yet), but they do look fantastic.

The ones I would buy first are "Cannon Ball Circus" and "The Super Hero in You".

The ideas just seem to mesh with my performance / prop style.

I would consider them for use in our family style show or school shows, not the birthday show. I tend to use smaller props for those shows, so I would consider something like "Simon Star's Vacation Spot" instead, if I wanted one of his props for my birthday show.

Donald,

Thank you very much for your reply and your thoughts. While I do also like the Circus cannon effect, as I stated briefly in my initial post, I would be concerned about the practicality of carrying and setting up all of the props for the routine. The venue for this effect, as well as any other effect, would be either in livingroom or in classroom settings, not on a large stage. Do you htink that the effects that you mentioned, the Circus cannon and the Super Hero, particularly the cannon effect, are too large for these venues?

Thank you again for your courtesy and comments.

Michael

What floorspace do you feel you have to perform in these venues? And what props / tables / backdrop / sound system is also going into this area?

When you have worked these venues before, what scale of props have you used? How many volunteers have you used in a single routine?

Understanding the limitations of your surroundings might be a way to start.

For example. for me, I know that most birthday / living room shows give me a floor space of about 4' x 6', and sometimes 6' x 6'. I also have my assistant and my su-table in that same area. And I have never done a routine with more than two volunteers in that sort of venue. So, I personally would not do something with a shooting ping-pong ball in that area, nor something with four volunteers.

However, many of my family shows are on stages or in venues with a floor space of at least 12' x 12', if not larger, so I could work these routines there.

Donald,

Thank you very much for your practical advice. While I do like the effects such as the Circus Cannon and the Super Hero Silks, they would in fact be too large for the size of the venues that I would use them in.

Thank you again for your courtesy and help.

Happy to have been of help, Michael. Let us know what product you choose, and how it worked out for you. People are always interested in the experiences of others, before buying a prop themselves (just like you were).

Donald,

I recently purchased the Simon Star. Beautiful! I then immediately ordered Gary the Goofy Ghost and was planning to add the Christmas tree. I think it's called. Hopefully one day we can both afford a custom backdrop from this great source!

Space available is a reasonable consideration. However, I would first consider how long are the performer's arms? I'm a believer in "bigger is better" until proven otherwise. But many of us aren't six-footers.

Tim does make some beautiful stuff. His computer imaging opens the doors to a lot of opportunities. Catch him at KIDAbra and look at his backdrops too.

Tim is great to order from. He is conscientious and backs up his products. I have bought some of his other props but I am most happy with a Warren Stephens' silk item (Mismade Bouquet) which he custom made for me --- beautiful work. I know he was also trying to do some collaborative work with Richard Hughes: new school and old school! I mean that in the most respectful manner.
