New to magic and just given a cane to table, seems imported, weak thin legs, top hat and flange?. should be ok for me for now. but no instructions and the giver doesn't have a clue eiher
Qustion, how does the top hat stay on top of the cane once opened? how does the flange attach to the hat? the hole fits the tip of the cane, but the hat? really didn't want to drill onto the hat, do I? If anyone can give detailed instructions or email me them, really appreciate it.

Japanese canes, some are magnetic. Put the hat on the knob of the cane it sticks then it is magnetic.

If you have a plate that must be put in the hat, then you glue the plate with the hole in the inside of the hat and cut a hole in the top of the hat after glueing. I used a universal white glue that can glue metal to cloth. That was the name of the glue Universal, if I remember correctly.

You should not have to drill anything. Just cut, I suggest applying some white glue on the top hat first before glueing. This will prevent fraying of the material.

Thanks for the reply. Not magnetic, and don't want to ruin the hat by cutting it. Don't think I like this method too much. Live and learn, as I am new to magic...I guess there is a learning curve to obtaining tricks. It seemed nice when given to me, but too much of a hassle for its worth.

thanks again

I bought the Nielsen Top Hat table. I had to cut a hole in a $200 silk top hat. It hurt but I like the end product.

If the hat is of good quaility or has special meaning you can purchase a lesser quaility hat for $20-$50 and give that a try.
