It does not require magic. I along with many others, use rocky effectively without doing a trick with him. I produce him from my square circle, but do not do any tricks with him. I just let the jokes and the comedy roll with the prop. It is a lot of fun to use!
Now, for inspiration you may want to check some of David Williamson's stuff out, he does a hillarious card trick with rocky and about 4 spectators! |

You can do a strike vanish with coins or other objects, tell him to give it back and make things reappear.
I do impressions with mine. Put him on my head and call my self Daniel Boone. Put him to your stomach with the spring compressed and ask if they ever say ALIEN, then slowly let him spring through your hands. |

I just completed a mini-asrah levitation for Rocky. After I go through a card location and a comedy routine, Rocky levitates under the cloth and then vanishes in mid air.

I've used the routine described in the "Magic Menu" called "Rocky Does It!" (See the first Volume page 296).
It uses Rocky to find a card in a hat. Some use him in a vanish (ala "Tear Apart Vanish") You could Drop him down a Botonia tube to transform into a boquet. I just had a thought you might try...Shove him thru a spectators body using a method similar to Tony Clarks "Bottle thru Spectator"...It would take some adapting to figure out the details.... You could tie a ribbon with a bow around his neck and have him appear with a previously borrowed object tied to it. Abbott's sell's "splitting a hair"...perhaps you could do a "multiplying Rocky" routine. Use him in a arm chopper instead of someone's arm.... You could do any number of "Mind Reading" magical effects with him. Give him a pencil. Make a strait Jacket for him... or me... enough for now....

I use a stadleman's (?) livestock vanish with rocky, after the intro / basiccomedy moves. lots of fun by-play... use Mission Impossible Theme and the absurd Dramatic Serious routine is funny. I announce that Rocky will escape the razor sharp sword... as I pull out a dull wooden dowel. With much "Copperfield-esque" eyebrow action and dramatic moves, rocky disappears (under the tablecloth)... box shown empty... and object under cloth is not rocky as they thought... fruit, bottled water etc.

I think Jim Pace had a video on spring animals and he did a coin trick using the David Williamson vanish to show that Rocky ate it. He then traced the coin down Rocky's body...you know where this is going. I have toyed with idea of putting magicians wax on the nose and having Rocky "find" the chosen card. Good luck.

I modified my Rocky with a small magnet behind and under his nose.
PM me if you want to know more.Way more versatile and realible than wax. Now he can pick up Steel coins, shimmed cards, etc,... I have also sewed in the back of my jacket a strong magnet.Rocky gets away from me and he easily sticks to my back (magnet to magnet). I can't find him for awhile and when I finally do I have lots of trouble getting him off. The kids go nuts! I also have a zig zag rocky illusion. Do it to music just like a large illusion. Use an air of danger with it. Jim Paces video called Spring puppets is very useful to get you started.

I have used Rocky with a spirit slate as a mind reading effect based on Harry Anderson's Dybuck from The book "Wise Guy".
I have also used him with the Mind Reading Teeth box. Fawlkes |

I also have a zigzag Rocky illusion, I hadn't thought of using music with it -great idea, Daniel! I'm thinking of routining it with music, and adding in some comedy snippets during each phase of the trick, as though Rocky got involved in editing my soundtrack. Examples I've come up with so far are to play portions of the following songs at the appropriate time, as though Rocky were thinking them:
Do you really want to hurt me? -Culture Club Cuts like a knife -Bryan Adams Pieces, pieces, pieces of me -Ashlee Simpson Any other ideas on what Rocky might add in to the sound track for some comedy? |

Me: Hey Rocky how about helping me with a trick?
Rocky: (nods yes) Me: Okay, how about if I make you disappear? Rocky: (Nods no) Me: Okay, how about if I make the audience disappear? Rocky: (Nods emphatically yes) Me: I need the audience to count with me, 1, 2, 3! (put plastic cup over Rocky's head.) |

I'm pretty sure it's original. I've only seen Dave Williamson do a Rocky routine, I don't think he does anything similar. I don't think it was from the booklet that came with Rocky. If anyone knows differently, let me know. Anyways, I don't mind if you use it. good luck, Rick

If you have an extra old one, how about cut and restored Rocky Tail.
