Unfortunately I was not able to tape Steve Baker's lecture. I was busy running the video for his lecture. Hopefully someone else was able to.
I will work on what parts I did tape and hope to get something put together soon. It will take some time as kristen is out all next week and we are on the road the following week in Vegas and Dallas. Kevin

Steve's lecture was just great, and very informative. The slides and vintage footage of those old timers was by themslves worth going to the convention for. I don't want to make those who missed it feel any worse but let's just say, do whatever you can to attend next year!

Cuffs,
If I'm ever in San Diego I will certainly take you up on your offer...oh, and I promise to leave the picks at home...okay, most of them. Ace, great to meet with you and congrat's on the book. Kevin, a real treat and priviledge to meet and spend time with you as well. I very much enjoyed our late night video talk and hope to see you again soon.

Thanks Ian. No DVD for 2006, though. I'll be there if I have to walk all the way
Don: Hope you can make it too. Riley Ian: Expecting a visit from Bill Liles next Saturday. We've never met but he's in the UK for a time. Do you know him? |

Hi Riley, I had a phone call from Mick and he told me Bill was coming to the UK.
I did have the honour to meet Bill at the convention (so please say hi from me)and I got to show him the special Mirror handcuff reproduction I made which was based on my theory of how the cuff operated ( which was reversed engineered from the picture of the original key from Bill article in the Houdini Historical Newsletter (1993?) Bill had the opportunity to examine the original cuff for the article. I was thrilled to hear that all but for one feature (which I purposely left out)the cuff was as close as you could get to the original without having the original to copy from. I also got to meet Patrick Cullington prior to his lecture on the Mirror Challenge and showed him my theory of how the escape was done and then escaped from my ungimmicked Mirror handcuff. Then surprisingly, right in the middle of his lecture he acknowledged my theory as one of several possible ideas. Shame his lecture didn't actually pin point the method Houdini used. ( but I believe I am the closest to the method) Ian

Hey Riley, it was great having you as part of the convention, even if it only was a video image, and to echoe Ian's words, here's a big "THANK YOU" from all who viewed the DVD. I can't wait until your book is complete as it looks like it will be terrific. And don't worry, we'll get you to the convention next year if I have to commandeer the Staten Island Ferry and come and get you myself. Thanks again!

Hello again everyone. WEll, I'm almost caught up on sleep. I WAY overdid it at the convention. Joe Fox blew me away with a mentalism card trick, which hasn't happened in years. GREAT feeling - thanks, Joe. It was also a pleasure to see many escape artists and collectors sitting in the lobby doing some close-up magic, showing the multiple talents of many of our fellow escapists. AS I look at the photos I took of Mark's collection and the ocnvention my mind is simply overloaded. SO many rare items. Thanks again Mark, it was incredible. Freddy and I could have just sat and looked for hours.
Steve, you're now one of us. By next year I'm sure you'll give us all a run for our money in the lock picking contests! Great meeting you. My hats off to Mark and Shiela for ALL their hard work in putting this event together. We've talked about it since the 80's. Well, they have been well worth the wait. I can hardly wait until next year. Best wishes to all my friends, new and old, John Bushey |

Hi John, Hope you have recuperated from your sleep deprivation and brain overload. It took me a week to get back to normal (not that I was that normal in the first place). I had to work double time the week before the event just so I could take the time off to attend. I am now ready and willing to go to another show....bring it on!
I am glad you enjoyed viewing my collection. The excitement you guys expressed is very encouraging to me. As you have seen many cuff collections from all over the place, I am happy that you find mine that noteworthy. I hope we can continue with the rest of the collection one day soon. I missed Joe Fox's card trick but Terry blew me away with his mastery of the cards. My son is still impressed that he can throw a card from across the room and hit him in his hand. I saw Ricky Jay do this, but not in my own house. Good luck on the new job and thanks again on the Maltbys. mark O--O
