While looking through some old convention photos, I came across one from a TAOM show back in the late 70's of a dove worker (Dont remember who it is though)who did an effect I really loved. After producing a single dove, he placed it between both hands, then using his thumbs like he was cracking open an egg, appeared to split the dove in half, but actually then produced a dove in each hand. It was very effective and visual. What is the name of this effect?

There are a few names which it goes by:
1) Dove Split
2) Double Dove split.

Cool effect, but make sure you give it the required practice. Andy Amyx explains this effect clearly on his DVD. Good luck!

Many magicians today use this effect almost to the point of it being overdone. As Tony said, it takes practice to present it correctly. Victor and Diamond do basically the same effect however they split a white rabbit after producing it from the Doves to Rabbit effect.
