I just got an email about a new effect by Jay Sankey, It's available here.
http://www.mjmmagic.com/pages-productinf......key.html Apparently it doesn't come out until Nov. 1, but has anybody seen this performed? Or might someone already have one? Just curious, because this looks really cool! Later, Pez |

The demo looks great, I want one immediately! I love the concept, Sankey's really pickin up the pace! First the AA dvd, then the site change (killer), and now some awesome closeup effects with cool gaffs! Im sure there is nothing quite like this one out there... good going Mr. Sankey!
I don't think you'll find anyone with razors edge yet, maybe some pro's that know him??? Ill let you know if I get one... |

Looked good. I think it's great that Sankey is offering the gaff coin in so many currencies...all except the Singapore currency...*sigh*...BUT, I believe this effect could be used by magicians, such as myself, who DON'T use the same currency as the gimmicked coins that come with the Razor's Edge.
Because, the way I see it, is that due to the nature of the effect, I can introduce the, for example, Canadian looney coin and have it examined and I can take out and compare it with our Singapore coins and I talk about how the metal in the looney is more malleable. Then I try to do the effect with the Singapore coin, but it doesn't work...then I say, "You see, due to the fact that the metal in the looney is softer..." then WHAM...in it goes. I believe by using that presentation, especially the part where I try to do it with the Singapore coin 1st, will help negate the "Do it with my coin!" rebate that spectators often have when you show them tricks with foreign currency. The presentation is built around the softness of the metal and not the 'Look what I can do with this foreign currency'. I just may get this. Personally I wouldn't get it signed, you don't see the signature during the effect anyway and more importantly, it just wouldn't fit my presentation. If anyone gets this, please share a review! Take care guys, Logan

I'd get it signed if its the ONLY trick I did for someone... otherwise, I wouldn't do the signature either.

I sent the demo video link (http://www.mjmmagic.com/videos/razorsEdge2.wmv) to a laymen. Good friend of mine. Says it looks "Cheesy". He said it looked kinda lame because you never get to see the signed coin untill after the card is out of the coin. So, coming from a laymen... may be something to keep in mind.

That's true...but most spectators, right when they see it (live) they're not going to be thinking that. they'll be like....WTF?!?!?! if you present it right, they'll still be thinking that it's still the signed coin. (and they won't have the instant replay to see that they never saw the initials) I also showed it to a friend, he thought it was cool, and then watched it a second time, and was like...that's kind of lame. but if I was performing it for him, he wouldn't have had a chance to see it again. just my thoughts on that. I hope this thing is cool! I've been wanting to add some more coin stuff to my routines. I'm normally a card guy!

That is one of the most visual effects I have seen in a long time. (I saw the demo at Hank's)
It looks like a great effect for the street, or for anytime you or your spectator's are "on the run" and don't have time for anything long winded. It's just "Do you have a quarter? You do? Good." Boom, boom, boom. Here's your quarter back, and it's done! Walk away leaving 'em stunned and totally metagrobalized! It's like a rabbit punch! I'm definitely in for this one! My only question would concern durability of the gimmick. How long will it hold up under repeated performance?) because if it is as good in person as it looks on the demo, then I would definitely be performing this one all the time! Now I mentioned just do this one and walk a way,..BUT if you have a little more time, why not combine ir with the "Sinful" quarter through soda can effect being lengthily discussed in another thread? (That is IF the blasted thing ever gets shipped out to us!)

I also think that the setup time for this effect will be very quick, so quick in face you could do it right in front of their faces (that's if my theory is correct) which would be cool because if you wanted to do it with a card and a quarter you could have the card selected and then borrow the quarter. If you had BOTH of them signed, it would be a great lead in to "In a Flash." |

As I see it, this will probably require learning one simple "move", but that move may take a little "knack", but I believe most of us here could handle it!
I think I have it figured out about the gimmick, too. I definitely want in on this one!

Not that I really care because I'm not buying it from them but does anyone know why Penguin doesn't have this effect at the moment? I know Sankey isn't exclusive with them anymore but I still thought they were going to sell all his products. Just curious.

I saw this demmed yesterday. It didn't set my world on fire.
Just a rehash of karate coin using a card to cut into the coin. Quite expensive for what you get in my opinion. |

I agree that the price seems a bit steep. However, a dvd is included with various handlings so perhaps there will be some valuable information on there.
