Oh, very clever... took me a moment or two to solve that.

Stan (as usual) has solved my puzzle. Well done mate!

How long did that one take you?

Heh heh heh, I'm glad you like it - one of my little quotes, in case you're interested

I need the number, BTW, 'cause that's the solution ;-)

For those in need of a little help, the crossword is a 3x3 grid, with the central square blank.

Once you have got one of the clues, the rest should be VERY easy ;-)

As for the number - it will help if you are a mathematician

Well, then, perhaps I was starting out correctly, since I got here:

EYE
Y Y
EYE

but how that gets me to a number remains beyond me.
Since I'm not a mathemetician, that probably isn't surprising. Smile

The grid is correct. Use a little, shall we say... imagination?

OK, Ive got it. The answer is -1.
Eye x Eye or i(i)= -1

Imaginary numbers. Right?

Minus one is right!

The shape of the grid is "Eye squared"

"i" in mathematical terms is an imaginary number - the square root of minus one. Squaring "i" gives you minus one

(Or, as Stan Algar said in his anagramatic post right at the top of the page... negative one)
