I spend a lot of my time trying to research magic. I am usually looking for books and lecture notes. I usually just google things by typing in words and phrazes. However I feel my methods of research are not efficient. A lot of the time I find myself really not being informed about new things. As much as I enjoy asking questions on the magic caffe, I would like to be able to research things for myself and get desired results. I find myself not knowing who certain magicians are or if they are still around. For a while I thought Larry Jennings was still alive, and I was a bit dissapointed to find out the truth LOL!!
Anyway I was wondering if anyone can give mem some tips on researching tricks and keeping up with whats current. Thanks!!! |

A decent site for researching tricks, and their sources, is at
http://magicref.tripod.com/magic0.htm As for keeping up on what is current, the Café and online magic shops are good. |

I feel one of the best ways to research and keep up with what's going on in the magic world is to subscribe to magazines and catalogs. Magic magazine and Genii are two great mags that will keep you up to date on all the latest developments in the magic community and they will also inform you about some history as well. Alos try ordering a catalog from L&L Publishing. They usually have most of the new stuff out there and they have a nice catalog that you can read effects from older books and videos and see what might peek your intrest
I am 27 years old and have been performing magic for 12 years. My main interest is in card magic, but I love all aspects of it. I love to discuss magic with anyone. Feel free to email me anytime.

Another useful site for your research might be The Learned Pig: http://www.thelearnedpig.com.pa/ They have a number of old magic books available online and other features. Good Luck |
