I am going to take you on a journey. We start at a table, and travel by a blue box. The journey is very poor, but it will take us to an island. There we find nothing feral, only a musical beat.

If you enjoyed this journey, what do you need to keep it going?

Put the record changer arm in "replay" position???
(I've been thinking about this all week. I don't think
this is the correct answer, but since no one else is
venturing a guess...)

My guess goes with the repeat button on the CD player, yet I can't place the song.

What's worse is I suspect it's a Beatles reference.

Start at a table. A turn-table?
Travel by blue box. I don't know about this. Are cartridges
commonly housed in blue boxes?
Journey is very poor. Again, this doesn't fit my "answer."
To an island. Would that be the center of the LP? The label
area is an island in a sea of black.
There we find nothing feral, only a musical beat. Could this
be the "thunk....thunk....thunk" beat that you hear when the
needle reaches the end of the LP? It's certainly not very wild;
it's the same (tame?) old "thunk...thunk...thunk."

I think I'm wrong, but can't come up with a better answer.
"Musical" + "table" got me stuck thinking about record
players. And I've been stuck in this rut for over a week now.

It seems Stephen is away from his computer. Can anyone solve
this riddle and put me out of my misery?

Well, my first record player was housed in a plastic box and it folded up with a handle so you could carry it--and it was blue!

Taking that lead brianmayo, we may as well go to "the cow says moo" toy that is blue and has a dial in the center (island) and you pull the string to go again.

Hi! Sorry - been without internet connection at home for over a week now, and work has this forum as a banned site. Ho hum

No musical references (apart from the small part of the clue that relates to music).

Think of this as several small clues all joined into one.

We start at a TABLE
and travel by A BLUE BOX.
The journey is VERY POOR,
but it will take us to AN ISLAND.
There we find NOTHING FERAL,
only a MUSICAL BEAT

As those outside the UK might have problems with the blue box reference, feel free to do an internet search on Jon Pertwee or Tom Baker

I'll give you a clue for the staring point - this is a table you might see in a place of worship.

I think I'm starting to understand...
But I'm not sure, so let me going "fishing."
I'll be brief and to the point:
Would an aquatic animal keep the journey going?

By all means, providing that you don't mind me being brief and to the point...

OK.
I think this involves a pattern that starts with
5,6,6,5. Is the next a 4? Followed by a 5?
Is there a difference in the British/American
spellings for the sixth?

It looks like you have the right idea, and likely even the right answers. For the 6th, the spelling is the same (due to the meaning). Had it been metric, then the spelling would have been critical - and to me, foreign)

I was scared you were going there with the blue box.

Pertwee had "Bessy" and Baker had "K-9" (I and II)

I don't recall any poor journeys though, including the latest which ended with quite a bang.

Still looking for clues

Not Bessie or K9 - neither were blue. You do have the right character they portrayed, though. There was a blue box that was prevalent in pretty much every adventure...

I should clarify that "Journey" is more a description (in the loosest possible sense) of the solution, rather than a clue word leading to part of the solution.
