I first saw J.B. Bobo do the TT silk vanish about 45 years ago and I was flabbergasted. It was the most magical thing I had ever seen. Bobo taught me his handling (even those in the know will not think that it is a TT if handled well). I performed it every week at a club where I played music for a decade and the audience yelled for me to do it every week. I called it "the little red dot" that floats around invisibly. They would yell, "Do the little red Dot!" And I still do.

I use a rainbow ribbon streamer.
Do you believe in E.S.P.? Mind reading? Well, just THINK of one of the colors on the rainbow you see here. Don't SAY it, just THINK it. Got one? Great!" Turn to the rest of the table. "You have all probably seen the trick where a magician takes a ribbon and stuffs it into his fist," as I do exactly that," and pulls it out the other side and it has changed to a different color, well, I am going to take this to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL!" Raise hand six inches and raise an eyebrow... "Don't you hate that joke? I do! Seriously, YOU," to the person who thought of one of the colors," merely THOUGHT of a color and, when the other magicians do this trick, all they do is change the ribbon to a color that THEY CHOOSE!" Look at the table for confirmation. "Not me! I am going to change it to the color that YOU," to the person thinking of the color, "are THINKING of! But, I have to tell you one thing... my cat got into my bag this morning and made off with one of my ribbons, so I have a one in whatever chance of this not working. SO - what color ARE you thinking of?" They name the color. My shoulders drop. My hand opens and I say, "Sorry, that's the one the cat got, BUT! Which hand do you want the rainbow to reappear from?!" And I reproduce it from whichever hand they name. The presentation throws off the people who know the TT version for some reason. Happy New Year! Lee Darrow, C.H.

Yeah I think that most people think that a thumb tip is almost too well known and that no magican uses them any more.

If in a group of ten, one knows the TT secret...do it for the other nine!
Hey, if he yells out "TT" so what, they yell that out when there isn't one. |

Who cares if they know about TT's.Performed properly with various subtleties, there is nothing to see.
If you want to perform it,but suffer from chronic magicians guilt, use a FT with a diagonally cut 9' silk or a shortened rainbow streamer. However,if you are going to perform it as per the instructions( like the great Heavyweight Champion boxer Muhammed Ali embarassingly did on National TV)give up magic and become a boxer. Oh,and please re-read Glen Godsey's post above,it is prophetic.Best. Rich |

It funny that I had a person at a table see me do magic and say "I know the TT I use it to make a silk vanish a long time ago" And I did two effects with the TT and he did not know.
Even kids that say they have a magic set that came with a TT, so I do my two TT effects and get the wows out of it. but I never tell them I use it on them. So if they say they know the TT don't do a silk vanish. or use a silk pull for the vanish and have them feel your hands and I bet they will say where did you put the TT.

Just because people don't mention that they know you are using a TT doesn't mean they don't know about it. There are polite people out there.
Magicians are constantly using D'lite's as well as UFO's. I live in los angeles. Everyone in los angeles has been to Las Vegas and anyone who has been to Las Vegas has either bought a set of D'lite's or a UFO, or has bought it for their kid. 2 great effects that everyone knows about. Sad. Nevertheless Magicians still use both.

I politely disagree.EVERYONE does not know about D'Lites, and again IMO,it is all in the way an effect is presented.I use(Golden D'lites)all the time in my restaurants with a tight magical routine, and before they know it the magic has happened and I AM CLEAN! (Alway's get's a big reaction)I use Golden D'Lites because if they have seen D'lite's it probably was the red's..Another subtlety:Do not extend the thumb more than a fraction of an inch beyond the fingertips.
That said, being a traditionalist,I am totally against(as I have stated on other threads)the rack job selling of Professionally oriented magic materials in retail venues other then Magic Stores and Magic Websites.I know it is a losing battle, but that is the way I feel.Best. Rich |

I agree with you about the selling of professional tricks like that. Same thing happened with stripper and Svengali decks. They used to be a major secret, now they are everywhere. If you can present the trick in a mannor that is more magical or entertaining than how they do it or learned it then they should respect you but very often as long as someone knows how the trick is done, it doesn't matter how amazing you perform it.

I have rarely had a problem with a TT. On the other hand Delit is about 80% "I have on of those" I have even tried to save it for the young kids, then when I walked over to another table they said "We love the delites, We bought some in Vegas" They saw it at the other table.
Nothing of the same will bring any change, take action today!

I have structured my routine(using D'Lites) so that I start out clean and end clean.Even folks that have seen or purchased the D'Lite's(probably red)are not sure that it is the same thing.
Let me break it down into four groups:1.Pro's 2.Hobbiest's 3.Dabbler's 4.Non magic cursory observer's. With many effects like TT silk vanish,D'Lites,Svengali decks etc.,the first two groups know what is going on and may admire your smart handling. The next two groups(majority of spectators)are the hopefully...Entertained recipients of a Professional presentation, and really can't make a DEFINITE connection between something they may have seen in the past. This is usually due to smooth routining, pocket management, deck sw******* etc. Any pro who performs fulltime for a while will know exactly what I am trying to convey;Polished presentation can disassemble MOST spectator fore-knowledge.Best.
