To Truthteller,
Bill's post started with two short paragraphs about the other thread which explains why he started fresh with this one. Then, the actual review began. Bill is extremely knowledgeable about book tests, an experienced performer himself, and had the books and instructions to study before commenting. So far, he's the only one who has it to comment directly on the Café. I did mention Tony Chaudhuri's comments after actually performing it last week. I hope that soon, others that get it will comment from a position of knowing what they are commenting on. Denny Loomis

The "Bill started it line" was intended more in a schoolyard way. But I think he has a valid concern and one which SHOULD be addressed. Otherwise, we will continue to see more of the same.
Good luck with your product, Brad HEnderson |

"The effect has been labeled worthless and "not worthwhile" by two of the speculators. Under the guise of freedom of expression, they state their own opinions as if they carried some weight."
Every time I think we've ended this thread on a peaceful note, another insult gets lobbed. My opinion carries some weight: I vote not to buy the effect. That's the weight of the market place. In my previous posts I tried to influence no one. I simply stated that the effect as described was not for me. It then caused this massive piling on and denigration, post after post of lamenting that the great unwashed have the gaul to express some personal point of view without adequate credentials. The fellows in this thread: Bill Palmer, Dennis Loomis and Brad Henderson obviously have a "good ole boy" relationship with one another. Fellows, you can backslap yourselves all you want, and express how little those of us who dare to express ourselves matter. However big you fellows feel you are, you're not that big. I don't have to buy an effect, spend my money, read the instructions, etc. before I am allowed to say I don't care for the EFFECT AS DESCRIBED. Gianni |

Your statement above is not about the EFFECT, it is about the METHOD. And regardless of your opinion, both Bill and are are pretty big. If you were one of the people trapped with us on the TAOM elevator, you would sadly agree too. |

Since everyone's expressing their reviews of the Dynamite Book Test, here's another online review that is very helpful:

And I know this may seem too subtle, but I was still concerned with the effect in my comment: the effect on the spectator. I do not know the method in this new book test. Frankly, it was not my intention to speculate on the method. That may be a tangential consequence of my comments but I was really not focused on the actual method. I was really concerned with how the effect would be viewed by the audience members. I was concerned that in their view the result could be obtained if the words were the same on each page. It doesn't matter if they are correct or wrong. It's simply that that conclusion can be drawn. I did not offer my comments as the actual method used. I was simply concerned that this would be the conclusion drawn by the spectator as they saw the effect. So in my comment I was focused on the spectator's mind, and not the actual method used. There is a difference to me in these two thought processes, although I can see how others may differ. I regret the turn this discussion has taken, and think I will be happier to simply observe this thread and any further posts from a bit of a distance rather than be involved myself. But I do look forward to participating in other discussions on other topics. Gianni |

To 1908,
He's entitled to his opinion, and he ends the review with this sentence: ----------------------------------------------------------- If this appeals to you, then this may become one of the most powerful mental magic effects in your repertoire. ------------------------------------------------------------- I can't argue with that! Hi Dennis! Actually after reading that review from MOTM, I decided to buy your book test. Looking forward to performing it in Hawaii. I am also opening a Magic Store called the Wonderful World of Magic in the next few months in Waikiki. I will definitely be selling your book test.

I just received my copy and, in my opinion, the cost of this effect is much too high......your credibility.

There is no way I would use this. this would undermine your entire performance,
and make a fool out of you. I will stick to MOAB. |

Remember, if you play this correctly, this book test can be a miracle in the right hands....I respectfully disagree with Spinnato and Badger

I think it comes down to performance style. I just purchased this book test and I can say it does not fit my performance style. I think I'll actually leave mentalist effects to the mental people. I haven't performed with it so I can't comment to it's effect. If anyone would like to purchase it I am willingg to sell mine new in the pack for $50 and I'll pay shipping. It is the 3 book test that retails for $75. PM me if interested.

If you play this at a 1200 pound gig, you most likely never be asked back. the spectator you do this for will be the star after the show. Because he will know how it is done. so for him he will have all the attention when your long gone because he will know how you did it. Don’t think for a minute that he wont try to make himself look cool in front of all the lads. And he will TELL. When you do a corporate gig these people see each other the next day. I think you will see a lot of these in the “lets make a deal” section of the café.

I agree. Effects that require a spectator to "go along" with the performer just don't cut it for me. What if he/she is uncooperative? Or, at worst, tells everyone afterward what happened? There are many other book tests out there that don't require this from the spectator. Those are more mystifying.... |

Looking at the posts above, this sounds like "instant stooge" thingy.
Is it ?? I still like the W.O.W book test. Nothing to remember and nothing to go wrong. :kewl: |
