While doing the 3cm bent corner scam, after I "accidentaly" bent the money card and was just about to do the mix and switch the bends, a spectator yelled out" Mr., Mr., the ace has a bent corner, fix it." Given, my hands were not touching the cards so I couldn't just continue the mix or anything....he pretty much called it on a bad note.
Any suggestions as to patter or presentation that one can do if this ever happens again?

That's pretty funny!! Ask him to put his money on the table, and maybe he'll learn to keep his mouth shut. I'd bet if anyone else had money riding on that one, they would have slapped him stupid.

Hey Art,
You could try something like this: "Yup, you're right! Sharp eyes. Now, the real 3-Card Monte players are really con men. They want you to think that's the money card--a sure bet--sos you put your money down. It's called puttin' in the 'lug' (or puttin' in the 'ear')" (pick up the cards, switch out the 'ear' and hype while saying this). "But, even though it looks like the Ace is bent ... " (have spec turn over, or you do it). This is the "If you can't beat'em, join'em" school of magic BTW, are you in Iraq, man? Gary |

Well, Dai Vernon had the perfect solution.
"Yeah, I know, sonny. They're all bent" ... and they are.

Mr Baker, I was showing the trick to some of the locals and yes, the guy that yapped out about the bent corner got pushed out of the circle by the other guys quite quickly. There's always a guy in a group when showing to locals that says the corner is bent, but he says it in Arabic, and the rest of the guys just whisper him to shut up. Little do they know that I can speak arabic quite well, and that the corner was not a mistake
Yes Im in Iraq Gary.

I just think that it will help you more. Continue then reverse the crimp. Either way that effect is in your control.

Thanks Mr Baker
Paisa, the guy made HUGE deal, actually yelled it out and everyone turned to him, so me just plain ignoring him was pretty much out of the question. Sometimes you can't get it your way...oo well we learn
