What is the best routine using one coin?

I don't know about simplest, but I think a flurry is the best thing you can do with one coin.

Carlos Vaquera has very beautiful Routine with just one coin. It can be found from his Ron MacMilan lecture video.

If you want to check out a good thread have a look at "True Single Coin Routine" Currently residing on page 6 of this section.
The single coin routine is a bit of a pet project of mine at the moment and I am looking to build a routine from scratch. Let me first explain the criteria I want my routine to fulfil and then I will share the basics of the routine, hopefully it will give you some ideas if you fancy creating your own. Criteria: 1) Must be entertaining and keep an audience interested (Variety of effects) 2) Routine is to be done close up and directly in front of the body ( I don't want spectators having to look from side to side like they are watching a tennis match, I want the magic to happen right before their eyes) 3) Must only use one coin (no jumbo finish) Other considerations as to things I didn't want in "my" routine as I don't feel they suit my particular style are: 1) No Handkerchief ( I don't carry one ) 2) No coins from elbow, nose, behind knee etc ( If I really could do this stuff why would the coins end up there? Just my opinion for this routine, don't let it stop you though) Routine: 1) Show hands "empty" whilst introducing routine then produce coin. I am trying to make this more of a subconscious "look my hands are empty" rather than making a point of it. For this I use an adapted downs technique from the start of his misers dream routine in bobo's (done with hands towards the floor as opposed to on the vertical as downs performed it) finishing with Paul Cummins technique from his "Up in Smoke" video to produce the coin. 2) Next I talk about the coin, turning it over in my hand and vanishing the coin using Chris Kenners adaptation of John Carneys fingertip vanish (Chris Kenner, Out of Control, Aftershock routine), I then make the coin re-appear using the same hand movements. 3) Next I use the Himber vanish and once the vanish has been shown I perform a coin roll with the other hand as a production. 4) Next comes the Cardini Steal (taught in David Roths Expert Coin Magic Made Easy videos), I try to make this similar to the himber in its initial appearance explaining that sometimes people don't believe the coin was in that hand in the first place. I then load the coin back into the hand for the production. 5) I then perform a Muscle pass on the pretext of showing the coin travelling more visually 6) Next I perform a standard French drop and pretend to hang it in the air, I then prove the coin has vanished using a thumb steal, hand wipe and then produce the coin in a sort of horizontal spell bound position, It's difficult to explain but is basically an adaptation of a Gary Kurtz move as described in Trio from his Unexplainable Acts book or in Misty like a dream on his video ( Rune Klan also does something similar in his Three Pieces of Silver video) I sometimes finish here, or... 7) Perform a retention vanish and a coin through hand dropping the coin into the spectators palm for them to examine I am still considering adding in the full part of Paul Cummins invisible hand routine at the end and would also like a complete vanish to finish with (Problem being I usually perform in a T- shirt and jeans, any suggestions would be welcomed) I really like this routine as it fits my style quite well and because it's my routine I intend to keep on developing it. I Hope this helps give you some inspiration, I shall look forward to reading the responses in the rest of the thread... see if I can get more ideas for my routine. All the best Linkster |

Sounds good, reads quite long but probably plays quite quickly. Thanks for sharing it.
Greg Wilsons all around vanish is great if your performing in short sleeves. Its shown in his "On the spot" video, it also contains his pitch and ditch move which is also a complete coin vanish in short sleeves. |

If you are wearing a T-shirt with a breast pocket, you can use a top pocket ditch.
My routine "Sleight of Elbow" from my Coinvanish Vol. 1 manuscript is a one coin routine that has a reason to use the elbows (I know you don't like using elbows - but if we can make coins appear in our hands out of nowhere - why not other body parts?). Anyway, I vanish the coin completely and it can be done in T-shirt and no pockets. Dan |

Hi Ross, the routine runs for about 1.5 Mins, glad you liked it.
Hi Dan, Never say never with the elbow thing but I have always thought it a strange move, for me at least. Maybe your manuscript will change my mind, it is on the list of things to buy. |

I have never done it, but the old coin thru dental dam seems to fit your criteria. It is self working (Simple), essentially impossible (impacting), as well as angle proof.

Ellison Polands' "Wonderful Routines of Magic" has a great 1 coin trick in which you produce a coin, change it from copper
to silver, thenchange it back, and finally completely vanish it - all with ONE hand! In BOBO there is a one coin trick that I combined with a Francis Carlyle vanish using the purse palm (I think it's in the Phoenix) - in the BOBO trick you cause a coin to be "unfeelable" by affecting the spectators sense of touch, then "invisible", by affecting his sense of vision, then restore both senses, one at a time, so that the spectator can first feel, then see the see the coin again. These are both different enough to be interesting and offer great presentational possibilities. Buried treasures! Best, PSC

Check out Ammars Coin Flurry on Easy to Master Money Miracles Volume 2. It's pretty powerful, very simple, starts with a nice showing. If you're not into teh whole, from teh elbow/kee/nose thing, dont bother, but Ammar is good. Give him a try.
HOpe this helps, Chris |

I always liked the one on Bill Tarr's Basic Coin Technique video. Somewhat similar to the one mentioned on the Ammar video.
