Here's the dealer ad copy. Anyone use this routine & if so can you tell me more?
Thanks ============= "An excellent comedy routine with a very simple premise...always the best kind. Effect: Magician begins as with a standard rope trick, gathering a length of rope up in his hand so two ends are left protruding. He says he planned to do a cut and restored rope trick, but since he lacks a scissors, he changes his mind. The spectator is told to take hold of each of the protruding ends. Fun and laughter follow-in good measure! It's zany, like its originators. With rope" |

Yeah, Bob Sheets uses it and does it on Hang'em High. It is pretty funny in his hands and is a clever addition to a rope routine. I don't think it's a stand alone effect, but if you like a quick visual hitter, this will fit the bill. Basically a long rope is bunched up and the ends are held by spectator(s) and the rope instantly turns into a very short piece.

I have used this rope trick many years ago before the Slydini rope craze that came into being or the cutting a rope with your fingers idea.
I found to use it in front of a group, takes a lot of spectator direction. Close-up it will play well. But for a group audience, you have to have the audience see it at the same time the spectator does. It does leave a him a little filling silly, though. You can over come this by getting the audience to give him a round of applause as he exits. Yes it would work great as a finish for the Sander's or Optics routines. Bob Lewis is the original inventor of this effect. It was marketed by Magic Inc. out of Chicago. They may sell it. A good effect that gets some laughs. |
