Very good. they auctioned off various things, including handcuffs, lockpick sets, and the ENTIRE CHINESE WATER TORTURE CELL!!! Lance Burton at the end preformed a straitjacket escape. It detailed everything from his war on spirit mediums to his days in the dime museums. Very kewl. I'm thinking about ordering a DVD copy.

I understand that the Chiness Water Torture Cell that was auctioned was completely rebuilt and the original was burned in the fire at the Niagara Falls museum..So if that is true the one auctioned actually DID NOT belong to Houdini.
The special was excellent by the way, very informative and learned a few things about Houdini I did not know.. Rennie
The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

I think the one at auction was rebuilt. There was an articale in Magic Magazine a few months ago about the Houdini stuff. David Copperfield bought most of it including the Water Torture Cell. Then his team of people led by Chris Kenner and Homer Liwag(sp) went on the hunt for actual time period wood and fasteners. They then rebuilt the entire prop again and it now sits in Copperfields collection. There was a weird phenomenon happen when they finished and varnished the prop. A knot in the woodgrain looks like Houdini's profile... Spooky!
The show reruns again on Saturday November 5th at 5pm est. Matt |
