Hi everybody,

As I read through all the different posts on the Café I see pro's and hobbiests and lurkers and regular folks. For me magic has been a great friend and hobby since I was eight years old (way back in 1969) when I checked out a magic book from the library. I'm not a working pro, I don't have regular gigs but I perform whenever called upon, sometimes for $$$ sometimes not. When I retire from 'day job' as a technical customer service rep for a large company, I plan on doing magic forever.

I'll bet this the Café has just about every profession imaginable represented.

I am curious, what is your "day job"?

Civil engineer and Ryan I know what steel detailers are. Infact I used to manage a group of them. They were extremely hard to find.

Sheet Metal Worker, Estimator, Project Manager.
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

Nice to hear someone else actually knows what I do for a living. I usually just tell poeple I draw stuff. It's not an easy way to make a living, but it pays the bills. We are extremely hard to find now and not many young people are getting into it. I am only 26, but have been detailing for 10 years, I got a long way to retirement.

For one more day, I'm a Quality Control Technician for an asphalt plant. Beginning Monday, I will be an Assistant Project Manager for a local contracting company. Before I accepted the job at the contracting company, I interviewed for a job as a detailer for a metal building company. Both jobs sounded great, but ultimately, the contractor paid a bit more money, and I gotta think of my kids.

TV newscast technical director/engineer. Doesn't pay that well in my neck of the woods though, but it is a fun job. Can't complain. It's better to have a job that you love and make less money than a job you hate and make more money. I have done both and am quite content on where I am.
